Well, I dont have a boat either. Not do most of my friends. I have one friend with a boat and thats it. But he invites me becausse he knows I chip in for gas. I dont see how not owning a boat would be a problem. Sure it'd be better cause you could ride anytime you want. But as for now I would advise you to try to earn some money to chip in for gas in your friends' boats (those that go to comps and stuff) and also for a wakeboard camp trip. _________________ http://www.miamiskinautique.com

I don't own a boat either but met someone through this forum who does and who happens to be in my area. I chip in for gas and am able to drive his boat, so I get to go basically every weekend.
If you don't have a boat, find someone who does (sounds like you already know a few with one?). Make sure you chip in for gas and having your own gear really helps as well. |

There's a part of this forum specifically for finding someone with a boat in your area, just make sure you chip in for gas... _________________ It won't be easy, but when I get there it will be one of the most satisfying journeys of my life. |

Its may be a mixed blessing not having a boat.
My friend and I were planning to get one, but we realised maintaining it is far more cumbersome too. We get sea water and that ruins boats easily. Also, where we live, we need a license to drive. That means I have to go out with someone who can drive, else I will just be driving while everyone is wakeboarding, except me!!! |

criswb, Wish you best of luck with your boat. When I was young, my dad had a speed boat, but I never water skiied. Same now, (though I dont own a boat), my son does not appreciate the opportunity I provide. Instead he's doing it just because mom forces him to accompany her.
HO-rider, like criswb and everyone said, ride as often as you can with your friends, and always chip in for the gas. If you bring extra goodies onto the boat (home baked cookies?), may be you'll be the most welcomed third-rider in town. Good luck. |

I know most people are always more than willing to take people out if you just ask around. We have a boat and its always nice when people will chip in for gas, help out with being a flagger and driver if you can, and also cleaning up the boat at the end of the day. And as shazie said food is always good too Good luck! |

I'm right there with you HO-rider, the only thing I usually get to wakeboard behind is my jetski, and its hard to advance your skills behind that. I haven't really met anyone who has a boat I can ride behind, but I do have a lot of friends who love wakeboarding like me. If I'm lucky, maybe by summer I'll have a boat me and my friends can go out on. Its on my Xmas dream list. |
