Leaking water where prop shaft comes out???

I just purchased a 2000 sky supreme V210. I took it out for the first time last weekend and had it in the water for a total of about 24 hours. When i pulled it out of the water the boat was full of water. When i pulled the cover to reach down to pull the plug there was about a foot of water in the boat. When i got home i put the plugs in and filled the boat with water and looked for a leak. There is a very small leak of water dripping out where the prop shaft comes out the bottom of the boat. Is this normal to leak a little bit of water or should it not leak at all? Is there some sort of gasket that would go around there that might have gone bad?

It is designed to leak a little, it is what keeps the shaft cool when it goes through the packing. You can adjust the nuts to slow the leak down if it is really bad but there should be a drip every couple of seconds.
It sounds like you may have a bigger leak somewhere else. Check all you hoses and fittings also any built in ballast.

The piece that the shaft goes through is called a stuffing box. There are two types, a dripless type and one that drips a few drops every minute while the shaft is spinning. If you are getting a foot of water in the bilge overnight, that is a pretty serious leak and you may want to check your bilge pump and float swich also. Also be careful when putting water in the bilge when the boat is out of the water. The weight adds up quickly and the boat is not supported evently as it is in the water.

There is a packing in the stuffing box that should be replaced every few years. It's a cheap fix that can be done in 15-20 minutes.

How difficult is it to install the new dripless packing gland? I think I might do that when it's time to repack my shaft gland.
