My boyfriend and I just bought ourselves some boards a couple of weekends ago.

He bought the Hyperlite Motive and for myself-I bought the Hyperlite Divine.

I have read that hyperlite has excellent boards-but I can not get out of the water for anything!

There are a couple of reasons that I think contributed to my stellar success-
The water was a no-go for wakeboarders being it was mem. day weekend.
The boat sucks.
The rope was level and not elevated.
I drove my boyfriend and he drove me, could it be different driving styles?

We both were going in blind except for what we have been researching on here! The closest I came, I ended up standing up in the water and not on the surface! My boyfriend had no problem getting up but it took him a couple of days...Could it be that I just have to be patient and keep trying?

Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance!
Stacy

Getting up with the rope not being elevated makes it a bit harder but not impossible. I really dont know what advice to give you other than wait for the boat to pull you up, dont get up too fast.
What happened to you? did you get up but fell flat on your face? did you fall backwards?? And there are different driving styles... to tell ya the truth I do not like it when my boyfriend drives me around, if I have no choice, its ok, but id rather have someone else behind the wheel.

Most of the time, I fell forward. Then I tried to lean back as far as I could, then it just felt awkward and it felt like the water was swollowing the board.

It's pretty normal and can take a while to get used to doing. The most important thing to remember is to be patient and wait for the boat to pull you out. Don't try standing up this the board is planed and on top of the water. Keep your body in a position kind of like you are sitting in a chair. If you fight it you're just going to push water and run out of energy. The boat should do most of the work.

If its the driving, have him vary between starting nice and easy and going a little faster. Too fast is no good, but Too slow isn't really good either.

Hope that helps some. This website has some good trick tips on getting up if you need more then that!

Thanks for the replies!

We are going out again today and hopefully the water will be much calmer.

Also- I guess my boyfriend was getting frustrated as well and signed us up for lessons! HA. It was discouraging because we went at it for like two days straight and he was the only one that could get up! I must have tried 20 times.

Good luck trying to get up. It all varies for different people, I have seen some get up first time and others who have taken half the summer.
I agree let the boat pull you out of the water and don't try to pull yourself with your arms, this will just throw you off balance.
The lessons will probably be very good, with an expert helping you with what you are specifically doing wrong.
But again good luck, its a great feeling once you get up!

I had a hella time getting up. Then I just sat there in the water, toes facing the boat, stayed in a sitting position and reminded myself to be patient. I let out boat pull me out like I was pregant and getting off of the couch. I even stayed in that position for a few feet, then I stood up, leaning back.

Try having your boyfriend pull you off of the couch. Don't help at all, just let him pull you up.

good luck and it is great when you finally get up.

A few things that helped me were:
- let the boat pull you up
- alway keep your board between you and the boat
- bend at the knees not the hips
- keep a slight bend in your elbows andhands at the hips

I finally got up!! I went back and got a new board and that made a world of difference for me. Plus, before I was trying to ride normal and not realizing I was goofy feet! Embarassed

I was almost up my first time with the new board. Atfter that, I was up and completely out of the water on my third. Now the thing is to just stay up Wink
