Your edge could be a little harder, and you could be a little lower going into the wake. You don't really seem to be shifting your weight back which could result in less height. As for the rope, the handle should be closer to your hip. Otherwise it looks good.
Note: I've never done a backroll... Just tantrums _________________

I would cut out farther from the wake. Progressive edge remember starts with the boat pulling you in first and then you continuing that pull with you own edge.
Next I noticed when I paused the video while you were still riding up the wake that you already started to throw the trick while you were on the water. This takes away from your pop and air time. Once your trailing foot leaves the water THEN throw the trick.
Lastly keep the rope at your hips. I couldn't tell for sure but I looks like you ended with one hand on the handle. Keep them both on till at least the board comes back under you.
My two cents. Hope they help. _________________ http://www.learnwake.com/amember/go.php?r=253&i=l1 |

chris you don't need to cut really hard to do this trick. yes u NEED a progressive edge but building too much speed will just send u soaring out into the flats at a low height because you are not absorbing the wake. learn this trick w2w before cutting any harder than you are.
***pause the video when you are about to go off of the wake....you'll see 2 things
1) you're throwing the trick before you hit the crest of the wake. wait until you feel the pop of the wake and let it do all of the work. all you have to do is straighten your legs out like you do when you jump and rock your weight back.
2) your handle and body position are way off. if you hit the wake with good body position you will land in a good body position. you MUST keep the handle at your front hip otherwise it will spin you to fakie and you'll be doing a R2R. as you experiment with this trick you'll figure out when to tuck your legs if you are rotating too fast or straighten your legs to slow down your rotation so you can land with your weight evenly on the board.
if you have any questions drop me a message. good luck man, you're 90% there cuz you're trying ...just focus on the technique and you'll be landing them in no time. |

I have just learned Tantrums and how I got up the guts was to read everything about doing the trick, trust the advice, and then follow it. First time I tried, I did everything I'd read and I landed it but I dropped the rope.
Yesterday I decided to try a back roll. I did everything I read about, looking over the lead sholder and progressing right through and it booted me right up. I let go of the rope at the last second cause I thought I was out of control but then I landed on my board perfect, just no handle. Didn't get to try again cause it was so choppy.
I guess what I am trying to say is trust in the advice, think about it, and try to do all the elements in it, and then commit being confident that it will work. Then if/when you crash you'll realize it's not that scary and want to try again. At least that's how it is with me. |

camcdonald1, If you watch the video in slow-mo you will see that you never actually get inverted. You are almost trying to throw the board around your back without going upside down.
When you hit the top of the wake you seem to double over on yourself. Keep your body tall and look up and over your lead shoulder. This will hopefully get the board going up and over your head.
Have a look at the Backroll in the Trick Tips section of the home page of wakeboarder.com, you will see that the riders body is almost dead straight (his chin is a little tucked in on take-off if you ask me but look more at the body position). Then take a look at your video and you will see what I mean.
You also do not need to cut out all that much, you do not need the speed to get the pop and when learning the backroll you only need pop. I would go about 15feet outside the wake and then start your progressive edge.
Full credit for giving it a go though! That takes a lot of stones the first few times! |

| dude u also let go of the handle before u faceplanted... everyting hurts SO much more when u let go. that and rocket is right. u BARELY got upside down. and for ur first backroll, KEEP BOTH HANDS ON THE HANDLE!!! u let go with ur back hand, begging for a R2R, also weakening ur grip as you approach your watery demise. and ur throwing the trick before the wake. |
