Thank God it's just a handle. I thought that I was going to open the thread and see a picture of a severed arm or leg.

No it doesn't - if they knew what they were doing they wouldn't let something like that happen.

15 years of driving never ran a rope over. It doesn't take a genious??? You have to be doing something seriously wrong or just plane not paying attention to snatch a rope IMO.

scheister, you have an 06 murray handle and have been wanting a new one? By the way, nobody's ever driven over the rope on my boat or any other boat I've been on.

DK Drop, i ran over the rope once because the line tension from when my friend fell trying a 3 pulled the line off the pylon and its a black rope to when i turned around i assumed it was still on the pylon but i ran over it so i wasn't doing something seriously wrong and i was paying attention...so like RUSSIAN said...$hit happens and you could still be a genius and manage to run over the rope. the handle on the other hand is less forgivable

When you ride in bodies of water with strong currents $hit happens.
Thats really cool that you have never run over a rope, good for you.
I just ran over my anchor buddy last weekend, got in the boat started situating gear and stuff and forgot to unhook the front. I worry more about the passengers and boat safety than a rope in the water.

Surely there must be a thread for boaters who've never done ANY of the following:
- Run over the rope
- Launched without the plug in
- Run out of gas
- Found their boat sitting on the bottom of the lake
- Wrecked a prop on a familiar rock
- etc. etc.

(Have done some but not all of the above, and there is always a good excuse Laughing )

You boat enough, long enough, you'll have a mishap. I don't know of many avid boaters that haven't had a mishap like that. I haven't run over my own line before, but have hit barge lines. But I have also left the plug out, and run aground.

haugy, ahhh bullpucky... Some people are just super awesome like that.

Dude, I have ran over two lines in one day. It isnt something you want to do, and sometimes it is something that you cant avoid. As Russ pointed out, current will easily cause this.

K-dub, word!

DK Drop, its pretty hard to run a rope over when you dont have a boat?

It's like that first time in the morning when the water is like glass and there is not another boat on the water. Then you look behind you and there are 20 boats waiting to launch. So you have your wife unload the boat while you sprint from the truck to the water. Get all the way in the middle of the perfect smooth lake and realize your boat is sinking. What to do? Put the plug in and act like it's your wifes fault. Embarassed

I've been on a boat all my life and have never ran over a rope or left the plug out.......but I did start wakeboarding with the bow anchor still firmly on the bottom of the lake once. My wife was driving, lets blame her.haha

Like everyone, I b1tch alot about all of the idiots out there, but it only takes about 1/2 second to become one.

I ran over a line once. Well not exactly. I was about to pull someone on skies from a jetski and the rope drifted under me and got sucked into the impellor. That sucked.

While I was riding I had a friend run over the line and it wound so tight I had to cut it off with a razorblade. It took me over an hour to cut it all off and it bent my handle but it didn't break. Now I use that handle for my tramp.

I've just been wanting something a little lighter weight. The Murray handle has worked out great so far though.

scheister, go with the new leather grip (lg series) handle from proline. I bought one a month ago and love it. I like it better than the carbon handles. The grip is soooo comfy.

I never got the chance to wrap the line around the prop, but i did get the handle hooked on it. I boat on a river and sometimes when the current gets going and you wrap around to pick someone up you don't realize where it is. started shelling out pointers to my lil bro in the water and before you know it i see a handle heading under the boat! YIKES! popped it in neutral just in time. But hey guys if we didn't have these stupid mishaps of not paying attention or whatever you wouldn't be able to sit around the table and say "Hey remember that one time..." Laugh

I could see if you had to contend with a current in a river,or like someone posted above when the line comes completely detached from your boat, otherwise it's just lack of paying attention

so I just caught something.....

In your profile, it says you are 24 and you say you've got 15 years of driving experience.

You have been driving a boat since you were 9??

Fantastic math skills, yes I have, if you were or have ever been in Saskatchewan you would know that this isn't an uncommon thing, but it really makes no matter. The moral of the story is don't run over your handle, or if you are make sure a buddy that will buy you a new better handle is driving.

moral to the story is that sometimes sht happens, and you shouldnt talk sht about someone else's miscues unless you know the full story.

ive spent my whole life on and around boats. when the time comes for me to own my own boat i'll be a damn happy man if my only F up is running over a handle every now and again. i dont care who you are, when you spend a lot of time doing something youre BOUND to screw something up.
