Are there any brands or types of boards that should more or less be avoided because they are too low end, or basically total crap?

In the snowboard world, brand names like Lamar, 5150, Hazmat, Vision, etc. are among the list that will do the job, but for the most part are complete crap for a snowboard. Just wondering if there any brands or types of wakeboards sold that would be better to avoid.

Also, what brand of WB bindings are better to avoid? From what I've gathered so far(unless I'm wrong), "Mobe's" are not the best. ?

Go to your local wakeshop they usually pretty good about informing you whats good and bad. But it really just depends on your skill level, what you want to do, what you want to learn, and preference.

Stay away from Hydroslide, body glove, and anything with heel straps instead of actual bindings. If price is an issue check ebay, I saw a CWB Sol with some decent bindings for like 225.00

toughnuts88, everyone thinks the parks is for someone who wants to go big, but in reality, the parks is for Parks. Not many people are confortable on it and it can hinder your progression. I would suggest something like a Liquid Force Substance for somone like you.

I agree with Ctipping, I have ridden on a lot of boards and the Parks is a waste unless you are really really advanced. If air is what you are looking for then as he said...the Liquid Force sutbstance is where its at, but if you want hyperlite then the premier is also really good. and with hyperlite you should try to go with the biolite.

Thank you for the replies... from what I've read (been looking up and reading on many diff. WB's on the net) most of the names I've seen; Doubleup, liquid force, hyperlite, Oneil, etc are good.

Like the "body glove" and "hydroslide" boards mentioned above, I'll be sure to stay away from those. With snowboarding it's the same thing-- a "walmart" or built in binding type is a total piece of garbage.

Opinions - are CWB's generally good boards? I ask because a local shop not known for selling the best of snowboards sells CWB's this time of year which is the reason I ask.

Also, as for talking to local shops - most of them are more interested in making a sale than really setting up a person with the right sized and type of gear. I'll keep researching on the net, try out some different boards while at wakeboard camp this summer then decide what will be best to buy for me

CWB has good stuff.

As for the Parks board, I actually love it, I think its a blast, but its not for everyone.

The Parks looks like a nice board, but for a beginner, I think I'd be better off getting a good quality board made for a beginner, then after riding for awhile, I'll have a better idea in a year or two what kind of board I want to upgrade to next.

I ride a CWB Pure 06 and 06 Zeus bindings and I love them.
I'm still a beginner so I didn't want to go for a token board like a Parks or a Byrley, which are great boards but only if you're advanced.
The Zeus give great hold, and I find the Pure very stable on the water.

I'm not sure about which board brands to avoid, but I know riders with CWB, Liquid Force, Jobe and Hyperlite who are all very happy with their boards.
