ScottyB_RochNY,

I have all the answers if you have the $$. People tend to ignore my advice when it's free but for some reason hang on every word when I charge them.

ScottyB_RochNY,
they need to be at least a majority owner ie 51% owned,

this should be under finance and biz thread,,,

great if you can get your mom to be the majority owner, that shi t works, some businesses need to do x amount with monirity owned firms, great way to get in, just make sure she can answer all the questions if she is every questioned

Yeah, that is really meeting the intent of the government in their award of contracts.

But, who cares. I disagree entirely that they can award a contract to a woman over a man just because of their quota. Seems wrong on so many levels.

Get over the minority/women, HUBZone, SDB stuff gentlemen. It's a way the local, State and Federal Governments can get what they want, when they want and with whom they want. No lengthy acquisition process, adversarial contracting, RFI's, NJS's, Claims, Lawsuits or getting inferior contractors, equipment, etc. Also prevents entities like the FAA from installing 12 year old computer/technology systems. Which is why the FAA is exempt from the Federal Acquisition Regulations.

Spend your energy learning to play the game, not standing on the sidelines bitching about it.

Sorry to her about CB's dog. He loved that hound.

I would think female owned business would be classified the same, but I used to work for a minority (Indian) owned company and we were a supplier to Ford Chrysler GM. There is a quota of minority supplier/contracts that the Big 3 have to meet on an annual basis, and it grows every year and they always struggle to meet it. If I am not mistaken as well, companies get added tax breaks just for using minority companies.

Our main customer was Ford and typically if you screw up as a supplier to Ford, ie. bad quality/late shipments, they will black ball you as a supplier, not give you any new business, and yank your Q1 flag (see google for descrip.). With that said, no matter what we did, how bad we screwed up, how often we were late, or how poor the quality, they wouldn't do a thing about it only minor threats for some pretty major violations. In fact they were begging us to expand to a different building and add some more presses so that they could give us more business just to increase their minority supplier percentage.

Once we figured out the game, it was great doing RFP's and putting "YES" we are a minority owned biz.. Very Happy

muckmeister,

The key to success in business is to make your customers life easier. Some people understand this but fewer still actually take the time to practice it. For those who do, sitting at the Kings table is very rewarding.
