I found a Pro Air Nautique in pretty good shape and the price is right but it has 1000 hrs on it. I know that is a lot of hours but would you stay away from it if it was in great shape otherwise? _________________ "What counts is not necessarily the size of the the dog in the fight. a compression test on the motor will tell you everything you need to know!
if it checks out good on the compresion then take it home! _________________ ass, cash or grass, no one rides for free! |

Dip_Krew, I will definately check that out.
If I decide to buy it and want to rebuild it eventually, what would I be looking at as far as price? I would assume that it is similar to rebuilding a car engine. Correct me if I am wrong. _________________ "What counts is not necessarily the size of the the dog in the fight. Its the size of the fight in the dog." - Gen. George S. Patton |

well as far as a rebuild goes, the block and the heads are the same as a car, after that its all marine specific, which basically means, almuminum gaskets and such.
its all pretty much the same stuff, just different materials and composits. so yeah take w/e a car rebuild is and add about 500 bucks to it.
(for a fuel injected 350 chevy, its usually around 2000 bucks for a stock rebuild)
also i should add, if you do a compression test, make sure ALL of the spark plugs are taken out, not just 1 at a time, it will give the best and most accurate reading and it wont mask any problems.
and if 2 pistons that are side by side are low on compression, chances are that the head gasket is leaking and when the piston is on its compression cycle its leaking pressure into the next cylinder.
so if that happens, look to be changing a head gasket |

dont let hours scare you away. My 1993 prostar 205 has almost 1400s hours alot of them being salt water hours and she still runs great. Only major problem has been the starter which was replaced twice, other than that its great and expect to hit up past 2000 hours with this boat . _________________ http://www.wakepics.com/member/PimpinD |

| Really depends on how the boat has been treated - interior/exterior and mechanical. A 1000 hours could be equivalent to a 100,000 highway miles or ??? So the compresion check won't tell you everything - there are some other fairly expensive components like the transmission etc... |

| Provided it has been serviced regularly (every 50hrs) and has good compression It will be pretty solid |
