| What are your thoughts about the benefits or drawbacks of selecting a big block higher horsepower engine compared to say a 330 hp small block in a V-Drive? |

Brass Balls, you will get to say "It's got a big block"!
Other than that, you will enjoy much higher GPH #'s.
I would reprop a small block before I got a big block - UNLESS I had one heavy boat like maybe a 247 or X-80.
I had a 454HO in a 25' boat that weighed 6000lbs or so. Pushed the boat great, but DAMN did it drink that gas. _________________

Hey Brass Balls,
The bb abso-frickin-lutely will not slow down - mucho torque going on there but as chavez, points out, you will pay at the pump... _________________ just broad reachin' thru life... |

Thanks guys!
Any other downsides other than fuel consumption? Not to come off like some billionaire, but I'm ok with spending more for gas so I'm not factoring that very heavily into the purchasing decision. |

For wakeboarding the Big Block would work great (it weighs abt 200lbs more) if you are not worried about gas get one. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

That's what I was thinking, more power aside, just having more weight in the back would be a plus for wakeboarding. The larger torque curve should be nice out of the hole and give it a few more MPH on top.
Any comments on the differences in handling characteristics?
chavez is the only reason that you would get a small rather than big block the gas mileage? |

Brass Balls, Gas mileage would be my only concern.
Great torque throughout the powerband, more weight, and one helluva throaty sound. Big-block definitely.
Handling won't change. It's different because the boat weighs more, but as for any odd tendancies none. I have driven two boats of same size, one small block, one BB. Drove the exact same, and since the power was there I didn't notice the weight of the BB. |

Pretty much yes. The extra torque/holeshot will be great, but that is something that could have been acheived with appropriate propping (good shot, lower top end). The good news for you is this way you will get great holeshot, and retain your top end.
mplv, twin screws are only an option on the X-80. _________________
