I am thinking about purchasing a Monster Tower for my 90 bayliner. One problem I see is mounting location. Is the hull strong enough to mount the tower? (See photo for locations). The sides seem weak and fiberglass thin. Anyone done this?

| You are right the deck and fiberglass where the tower has to be mounted has to be reinforced to prevent cracks and whatnot in the gelcoat and fiberglass work. Check out the samson towers at www.samsonsports.com

Nice!
N8, Thanks for the input. Do you have a Bayliner, or know someone who has one with a tower? No offence, but "should be fine" doesn't fix fiberglass. Just want to be sure.
Thanks again.

T&T,
I would contact the folks at monster tower. Personally I don't own a bayliner and have never installed a tower on one but in my opinion if you use a large wood(or steel) backing plate the load will be spread over a large enough area to not cause a problem.
On a side note I'd go with the monster over the samson, the monster is a SWEET design and seems like a lot of work was put into it.

T&T,
I have exactly the same boat, and my dad and I installed a tower from Barewest in nearly the same spots that you have highlighted in the picture. What we did was put 3/4 inch plywood as a backing on the inside of the fiberglass, with one side of the wood covered with an epoxy to make it stick to the fiberglass. We boarded behind it all last year and have had no problems. The key, in my opinion, is to make sure that the wood backing is large enough. I will look for pics of our project. Also, the epoxy is also key.

Very cool! That is what I am looking for. Look forward to seeing the photos.
Also,
I may also decide to build my own tower. The deciding factor is the cost of materials and time, I may scrap the idea. I have access to all the right tools and machinery to to it correctly, but the credit card may be easier. If I build one, I will post pics.

djmason720,
That's an awesome idea, there is a marine adhesive call 5200 by 3M that we used to use when replacing a transom. If you used this to put the wood in that is a great, great option I'd never thought of. If you also put a few layers of glass over it you now basically have a transom under the mounting points. T&T - The mounting locations look right on and call anytime 877-77Tower

Bill,
You guys ever done one on a 90 bayliner? Got any photos (did not see any on the website). I know it is not the best boat for wakeboarding, but maybe a customer sent one in.

T&T,
Not that I know of but we just started our bribery program to get customers to send photo's about a month ago. I know we have lot's taking us up on the bribe and expect a lot more photo's in the coming weeks. Give me a call in the office on Friday so we can discuss your install. My boat's an outboard and equally not the best boat for wakeboarding but it's a million times better than watching from shore
