If you're considering getting into the sport seriously (and/or have 100 dollars lying around,) look into getting The Book. It's a wakeboard instructional DVD series. I'm getting my own copy in just a few days. If you're not interested in that, think about your positioning. Stay tucked in tight, and let the boat pull you up (do not try to pull yourself up) If you find yourself sinking, you are standing up too early. Let the boat get up to speed first. Another person on WB.com described it this way:

if you are on the edge of a cliff and a buddy is trying to pull you up, and you going to fight against him and work to pull yourself up? No. You're going to stay compact, relax, and let yourself be pulled up. Good luck!

brkou812... I agree with Big Mace, the DVDs work a lot (Detention Volume 1 is amazing and fun!), I have never used a book, they might work... but the videos help the most. Very Happy good luck!!

I think that he was refering to The Book DVD series. They are great. When I was learning I was just plowing water. Watched to first disc, got up on the first try. My big advice is as the boat starts to pull you, relax, let the boat do the work, and try to touch your heels to your butt. It works for me.

just keep drinking lake water every time until you get it, and then youl realize how easy it is.

just kidding, honestly its just like you chill for a second or two when the boat starts the pull, then start turning sideways and stand up. once you get it its like riding a bike

My dad used to gun it like you do when getting up for skiing and it was super hard to get up, after riding behind my friends boat and the driver slowly starting vs. gunning it like for skiing I was able to get up. MHope this helps.
