There's nothing wrong with a single axle trailer...

What do you have against it?

It all depends on how far you tow, how much "insurance" you want and how much lead you plan on hauling. If you plan on towing far, a tandem would be a good idea. Probably anywhere between 3 and 5k depending on make and new or used.

Good Luck.

i had a hub go out on my single axle... I was lucky (and someone flagged me down from the smoke)... but one bump and the wheel would've fallen off... with a tandem, there's a little more security - as in, the boat wouldn't have hit the pavement. They're harder to maneuver by hand, but I certainly like them better.

I just bought a new trailer for mine (rear support cracked - second close-call to dumping the boat)... strapped for cash I only went with the single axle still (won't have the boat that much longer) - but I checked into tandem's... they ranged from $2500 to $4k.

People also suggested I try boat scrapyards... what I found were broken down POS's... of course, you can pay a trailer shop to overhaul them, or talk to local boat dealers about new stuff. They can either order something they carry from their current line of boats... or in my case, I got lucky and got an 04 that they just never got around to selling, so they gave it to me at less than they paid.

If you do decide to go and buy a new trailer definetly check out boatmate trailers they can build the trailer to your boat spec. and they use all disc brakes and dont have adjustable bunks that can end up moving on you, every bunk is welded in place. This is what is under my 03 lsv wakesetter and I love it.

tandum is much safer, however, you have to look at being practical, just do regular checks on ur trailer and you shouldnt have to worry about anything. as far as estetics go, 2 sets of wheels look bad ass

i have a single axle trailer, and i too almost lost the boat twice, one the rim cracked and almost broke in half,
and the second time the axle nuts stripped out of the hub and when i got home i had 1 nut left with only 3-4 threads to go before it was gone, very scary

I realize this topic is somewhat old, but if you're still thinking about getting a new trailer BUY BOATMATE!! Awesome trailer, perfect fit, great quality options, great service. I just got a tandem made for my 210 team and it is great. I got chrome fenders, wheels, swing away, led lights, 4 wheel disc brakes, and prop guard rollers. This pic shows everything except the rollers. Tows great and really hugs the hull to keep the boat secure during tow. Check them out!!

Happened to me last season on the way to the lake - I'm about 4 miles from the ramp, and someone flagged me down half-way to say my rim was smoking... I limped it home goin' real slow... I put it back in the garage, and as I jacked up the trailer, the wheel fell right off... luckily I didn't hit any bumps! At least a tandem would've had a spare wheel to rest on!
