Hello all! I'm planning on picking up wakeboarding this summer, but I have no idea where to begin. I have a couple questions:
1.) Do I need a pylon or a tower on my boat? I really don't have the money to buy one on top of a board... so I'm a little worried there.
2.) What do I need to buy? Obviously a board, but is there more? I snowboard, so I'm used to buying a board, boots and bindings. Is it the same with wakeboard?
3.) What size board should I buy? I'm 5'9", 165 lbs.
I love snowboarding and snowboarding so I'm hoping that wakeboarding works out for me.
Thanks for all the help! |

MatrixCubed, i agree with pilot_ryder...i started wakeboarding behind a lund 19ft pro sport...u can learn all the basics and more behind a pos no prob (it just may be a bit more difficult later on progressing). I also wake n skateboarded before i made the jump to water, and honastly water is the best of all 3 for me. it's so much easier to try new tricks when crashes aren't half as hard cause all u hit is water. no scrapes from boards to the shins sk8in, and no cold (unless u live in canada like me ) i'm pretty much the same weight n height as u n i ride a byerly 137 so i'd say anything around there should be good, if anything look a couple cm longer but 137 is perfect for me _________________ Smile at the hotties on the boat...Huck ur new trick...Nail it and they'll think ur Wicked..and even if u bail they can soothe u afterwards:D...

i second the above posts
towers are cool cause they have speakers and lights and it makes it a little easier to get up...but they are expensive so i wouldnt go with that
airpoles get the rope in the air like a tower...and are much cheaper
but neither is required and you'll save money...wakeboarding is a few simple techniques...nothing really hard
and there are fins that you can buy to give you more of a snowboard feel...so when you get out there it wont be too different |

#1...Basically you DONT need a tower or a pylon. Its just going to make you have more air time/hangtime, which is always nice but not terribly needed. I know people who rip without either. From me moving from a Pylon to a tower, all the tower has really done was improve space inside the boat. Pylons are obviously cheaper, but towers have more accessories you can fit on them which = more money.
#2...You will want to buy a board, and bindings.. and a rope to get pulled behind. Also if you dont know how things go youll need a flag
#3...I'm 5'9 about 135lbs and im riding a 136, 138, and a 129 (LF fish) I would sugest a uper 130's board for you, you dont want it to terribly small yet not huge. |

Rad. Thanks guys. Got another question:
I'm looking to spend $250-$300 on board/bindings. Is that even realistic? What would be a good setup for around that price range? |

| Science is a pretty decent board we own the 138 model. I have seen nice 05 Hyperlite State packages in that price range. Personally I would recommend that over the science or something similar. Look for a closeout deal on an 05 board, get a better board and still keep things cheap. I just bought an 05 LF Omega as my "new" board this season. I like the graphics on the 05 better anyway hehe. |
