Hey Guys,
So my brother added an AirPort express to his car so he can automatically stream wireless music from his iPhone/iTouch, which is pretty awesome. We really want to do this on my boat, and this is where my question comes in. How would we arrange the AirPort express so it does not have to turn on and off/revv the engine all the time when we do to switch riders and such? Because having to power up and power down all the time is super hard on the AirPort and also takes about a minute to boot up and such. What do you guys think?
Hardwire your inverter to the battery. Turn on when you get in the boat turn off when you get out.
The Airport express will likely need a minimal inverter to run it. I doubt it sucks much juice at all.
My main concern would probably be engine noise/interference. But there is only 1 way to find out...
OR
You could just use a BT enabled headunit to accomplish the same thing. Or just get a BT receiver and plug that in to your aux port. This would be simpler.
I've been able to stream to my car for 5 years now via BT. Have no idea why you'd want to overcomplicate this with an Airport Express. _________________

Bluetooth is the way to go for this in my opinion. Makes it simple.
Exile even makes a product called the AirPuck that would allow you to add BT support even if your headunit doesn't support BT (or you only have an EQ and no HU).
It's BT instead of WiFi, but your phone will consume much less power. This runs off of 5v USB, so you can use a cheap cigarette lighter plug to power it. Will boot up MUCH faster than AirPort.
