that I'm posting a which board to buy post.

I haven't looked at any of the new boards that have been out in the past couple of years. A buddy said he could get me either a 2006 CWB or Hyperlite board for a really good price. Pretty much can't pass it up.

I ride a 2003 Premier, which I still like. It's pretty heavy and slow though.

What I'd be looking for is something that has a bit more pop and is able to land a bit softer. I want something that will break loose for the odd surface stuff as well.

So quicker, better pop than my premier and has softer landings. I land wake to wake 70% of the time but also like to take it out to the flats everyone once in a while. I'm also around 200 lbs.

I'm not great, wake to wake stuff and working on the tantrum and Roll. I won't be using it for sliders or anything like that as well.

I've had the Hyperlite for 3 years now, what would be a decent fit? I'm not married to Hyperlite so if CWB has something nice I'd wouldn't mind trying one.

Suggestions from either company to consider?

Bambamski, I ride a '02(I think???) Premier. I demo boards and grab friends, but other than wanting something new....nothing has inspired me to actually make a purchase. Last ride of the year '05 I strapped on a friends Marius and I fell in love with the board. I will demo an Absolute just to be sure as it seems that EVERYONE loves it....but assume my next board will be the Marius.

i was in the same boat as you. used to have a premier, but switched to an absolute. if you want a new board but not an entirely new feel, i'd suggest the absolute. i found the shapes to be very similar (along with the lf substance) and they behaved likewise. in my opinion, the absolute does everything just a little better than the premier. it's a little lighter, a little faster (although not fast by any means), lands a little softer, and has a bit more pop. the rocker is huge (over 3 inches) but isn't abrupt, so you still pop between your feet, rather than at the nose. and, when you take the fins off, it's a loose, really fun board. when i first got mine, i was doing surface bs 7's out of powerslides and other weird stuff like that just for the hell of it

Bambamski,
I would recommend the CWB Absolute as well, my buddy rides one at fits about everything you said you are looking for.

Bambamski, same exact deal as you. Had (still have actually) an 03 Prem, rode an 03 Abs Plat, then a 05 Abs Plat, and it was all she wrote. The 03 Abs was sick, the 05 was just perfection under my feet.

Bambamski, very similar to 05. Just minor tweaks. Not enough for me to justify upgrading.

03, 04, and 05 are all different to the point where they ride completely unique.

I've never ridden one before, but I heard the new Hyperlite Drive was supposed to be one of the fastest boards on Hyperlite's line, and it was rated to do better wake to wake than into the flats.

Yes.

For instance the '02 Absolute is now the mold for the '06 Sol, the '03 Absolute is now the '06 Surge or Flame and so on. CWB seems to creates a new Absolute model each year and move the previous years model down their name line. For instance I love my '02 Absolute 141, I mean '04 Pure, I mean '06 Sol, rides extremely nice whatever name it now has, they are all the same board.

a lot of people like the '03 absolute shape best, so if you want to save even more money, go for the '06 pure or flame (i forgot which one is the '03 shape). before '05, the absolute was much faster with less rocker

Confused Confused What?

What's the 06 like??? Like I said, I'm getting a pretty good deal on an 06 board through a friend. I'm pretty sure I'm getting it for less then I could buy an 03-05 board for.

Thanks for the responses. I'm a little confused though.

No Hyperlite love? I'll probably order today or tomorrow I guess.

One thing you guys need to know about the recreations of the Absolute shape (as price point boards) sometimes have a different layup (thus creating a different flex pattern) than the Abs from that year.

I know for fact the Sol is not an equivalent of the 02 Abs. Internal materials are different, and that particular board is pressed in China. It is one of the few CWB boards that are pressed overseas.

Anyhow, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Flame, Pure, or Faction if those shapes suit your needs.

Bambamski, the 06 is extremely similar to 05. They cupped the rails slightly, and changed the top sheet a bit esentially thinning the tip and tail and pushing more weight to the center.

the '03 absolute is the same board as an '06 flame or pure. cwb doesn't retire old absolute shapes, they just stick a new name on it and sell it for less. the '06 absolute, i've heard, is nearly identical to the '05 absolute that i have. if you're looking for a faster board than your premier, an '06 absolute will be a little faster, but barely enough to tell.

so, if you decide on the absolute and want more pop and softer landings, go with the '06 absolute. if you're more interested in speed, i'd go with an '06 flame or pure (you'll have to research which one is the absolute shape from '03).

if you're still confused, don't worry, i think i confused myself as well

The Pure is the 03 Abs shape. The Flame is the 04 Abs shape.

Again, different layup and core materials, same shape.
