I am in the process of building my winch, should be done in a week or two. I am on the waterski team at my school (Cal Poly) and we host one of the spring tournaments at a ski lake every year. We are going to have a mini winch/rail competition after saturdays events, basically put the winch on one dock and cruise down the shoreline to the other dock. Got about 300 feet to work with, maybe a little more, and the water is anywhere from 2-4 feet deep depending on how close to shore i get. I would like to maybe have a slant rail, flat bar and maybe a kicker or just a wide, low flat dock type deal, trying to keep costs low though this is our first try at this.

I think a slanted flat rail would be nice. (slanted sideways...like 30-45 degrees) 15 feet should do it. A kicker would be good too and my favorite, an Aframe.

There was this gator rail jam video up a while ago, winch driven too. May be worth checking out.
