Okay so I can poke my stalefish glide out perfect but I feel like I don't have enough time to get it back under me nor can I pull it back under me. What direction to I pull, just down like on a raley or towards my hip? Thanks

you should pull more towards your hip but if you are having problems pulling it down then i think the problem is stemming more from the take off. i find that if i dont get the right pop and don't bend my knees enough (i bend my knees A LOT on indy, nuc, and tail glides) then i don't pull the trick down. if you are releasing off the wake properly, you should not have to think about pulling the trick down, it should just kinda flow naturally. i find that when i miss my pop a little bit and dont release my hips properly, thats when i can't pull them down. also work on pulling down some indy glides to help you with the corked OHH, i think its easier to pull down the indy glide but the mechanics of the trick are similar

by the way, this trick is nothing like a raley and if you edge into like a raley you wont be able to get full extension and you wont pull it down. the edge must be very crouched knee bend and you really have to accentuate your pop on the wake...good luck

kyle, how far should my cut be? I've been taking a longer approach in and staying low trying to get alot of speed and as much pop as possible, but I just feel like I don't have enough time in the air.

i dont cut nearly as far out as i do for a raley, i just take a really hard, really knees bent edge and almost pop myself into the glide. i would say if for a raley i cut out 20 feet (dont know the distance but whatever the max is) then for any of my glides i cut out 12-15. You will have plenty of time in the air if you get your pop right and you wont even have to worry about pulling it down really, you just have to initiate it a little. For your glide, i would cut out about 12-15 and take a hard progressive edge but make sure your back is strait up, not like a raley where you can be almost leaning against the boat, and keep the handle closer into your hips than you normally would. When you hit the wake, you need throw your hips down and to the right very hard, almost explode them and push the handle down and to the left very hard, this will keep the rope in and allow you to be in complete control and lock on the grab. Make sure you keep your head level and looking at the tower and this should get you some extended air time because you will pop better. By the way Im left foot forward so if you are right foot forward just switch everything around. You dont need to do this trick really big at first to land it, just get used to the proper pop, it is completely different than any trick. I can do this almost wake to wake if i want to so it is all about your rope control and pop, i hope this makes sense. I just basically typed everything i think before i do the glide. If you can get a video of you trying it, i can definately help out way more. If somebody saw me on the computer they would have laughed very hard because i tried to simulate in my chair about 10 times while i told you this, haha

I've also only done these behind a SAN which obviously has a very steep wake which i think is a big part of the trick for me

K-wood Kid, can you do 911s? I learned 911s first and it has really helped. but i haven't really got to the point where I feel comfortable doing glides yet.

No wonder I died today Kyle. I'm talking toeside man. I refer to a Raley cut meaning my hardest possible edge in like laying down on the water. These are batwings and TOESIDE GLIDES haha. Now any REAL tips? Wink

Calling it a batwing from the start might have avoided a lot of confusion.

Now for the real tips. I just got back from the Projects where I hammered out my batwings very consistant. If you feel like you are having trouble getting the board back under you, this lies in your approach and handle position. Most likely you are not creating enough tension up and off the wake.

You can take a longer approach, but i found that a shorter one is best for learning. let's go with the 20 ft. cut being the maximum in this example. when you start in, the first 5-7 ft should be very soft in terms of tension, just get your nose pointed at the wake. the middle 10 or so ft should be a smooth progressive cut similar to a crow. The last 5-7 ft of your cut is where you should apply your 'lay-down' edge. if you try and do this too early or for too long a period of time, you won't be able to hold maximum tension up the wake which is critical for release and return. so save it for the last 5 ft of your cut and you wont have to hold it very long which means you can also create more tension. when you hold this off the wake, your board will fly out and i mean fly. here's where all this pays off. if you keep the handle in close in the air, with your elbow bent, the tension will naturally return your board under you. then all it is a matter of landing on edge and ridin it out. hope this wont kill ya your next time out.

So I went out and a tried a few yesterday. First one, I had too much tension, popped the handle and initiated a perfect ts bs o/a 3, all the tohers I just couldn't pull it all the way in. Here is a pic, wondering if I have enough air and if I'm in the right position or not. thanks

hmm i dont know why you arent pulling them down. i find that batwings kind of come down naturally, maybe you need to keep the handle in more, i always try to keep it in as much as possible, but that is a normal batwing, i have never tried them stalefish

if your return to earth feels later than normal for the given height, then there may be two reasons for this:

1. you are not holding your edge up and beyond the wake. you might feel like you are, but most likely you are giving just enough back to the boat (right OFF THE WAKE) to drop the snappy/springy feel. trust me the first time your maximum edge is held off and beyond the top of the wake your board will fire out behind you like cannon. then as long as you keep the line in tight your board should recoil back down and in like a spring (a small pause at peak in the air, then a forceful and quick rebound). but i do not think this is the major cause in your case.
2. Letting one hand go too early. this causes your board to whip out violently with little hopes of controlling so much tension with one hand the whole way up and down. as you hold your edge, keep two hands on the handle longer to control extra tension. then as your board releases, hold both hands on handle until your board rised to about hip level and then grab stale (this really wont take long, but that extra moment of 2 hands harnesses tension enough to use the rest of the trick).

sorry for the novel but you are too close to dialing this in.

Does anyone else find that batwings destroy your left shoulder, like rotator cuff area? I'm almost scared to do them now because it hurts my shoulder so bad everytime. I think i must be doing something wrong

I have been trying them halfway and get the same feeling kyle. Personally I plan on sacking up and trying some full ones this season to see if it is as easy as everyone claims.

hard cutting ones will wear your shoulder/lats out quickly. i did about 4 on spring break and it was sore as hell the next day, but they shouldnt cause a bunch of pain. bend your elbow and have your bicep take some heat off your shoulder/cuff/lats a little.

Yeah batwings hurt my shoulder too. Especially batwing2blinds. Anyways, you look perfect in the air. Try really pushing through and up the wake with back foot. It will give that whip feel.

Try taking the cable cross overs and adjusting your location to mimic the movement the closest. Thats what I have been doing.

Haha man its not my fault I tried to talk you guys into letting me chill in the boat with ice on it so you all could take your sets but I got outvoted, then once I was off the boat I tried to tell you guys to put in back in the lake and just drop it off at my house when you were done but again I was outvoted so we go to the hospital and after I'm told I get a big fat brace I was pumped to put the boat in and I would drive so you could take your sets and AGAIN I was out voted so hey man I tried I really did.
