|
|
Hey guys, i'm getting a new boat and that means time for a new system. I was thinking about tower speakers and instead of going with 6x9's i was thinking of going with Horn Loaded Compression Drivers. Anybody ever tried it? I would think that they would be louder and easily reach the rider. What you guys think? _________________ "Live today you could die tomorrow" |

| HLCD's by themselves don't sound good, they are very, very harsh....I tried to match them up with a pair of 6.5's and still not enough. |

first off, they can be done, have been done , and will keep on being done. HLCD's are/can be harsh ( they dont have to be as in car audio) depending on what you are using them for. Now, what are you intending to use them for ? Wakeboarding means you will be in the water 60'-75' behind the boat. Will you hear them as being harsh, high chances are no.BUT you will hear them! Car audio speakers are closed/small room acoustic drivers, HLCD's are open/large room environment drivers for open spaces ( water).

He has MY old design which now has different drivers and larger woofers. The old had car audio drivers ( from which i had come from). I had taken input from different customers and matched several drivers for a smoother sounding system. ALTHOUGH they are still harsh when comparing them to a high end home system or a high end car sudio sytem, but this is apples and oranges !! |

I've seen a setup similar to this. did you make it or purchase it? The setup I saw used a very hard plastic type material for the enclosure. _________________ LED Concepts |

| Junglesmacks and Logan, please take a look at our site. www.wetsounds.com We have just released our two new HLCD tower speakers after 2.5 years of development. Take a look at the FAQ questions as it gives some back ground on our company. We are a professional company that builds and designs proprietary products. Adam is right, just taking a Horn out of a catalog and throwing it in a can or enclosure is very harsh. While it can and has been done and will result in a Loud tower speaker. If that is all you are looking for is loud, there are plenty of options. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. We feel that loud and clean, not just loud. Having a speaker that reproduces all the frequencies, quick disconnect, professionally built, light, resistant to the elements, full warranty etc..the list could go on. Should all be factors to consider when looking. Adam, has actually heard some from a distance and we have been trying to get a demo for him, so hopefully he can fill you in on his take. Thanks |
