i guess beyond what kindof music does everyone like.

i listen to punk, screamo, metal and the occasional country. i also enjoy some rap, but dont have much besides eminem and some 50 cent.

im looking for some good "on the water" or ridin music. ive noticed from skateboarding, that hip hop tends to relax your riding, and you feel smoother, where as faster punk type music pumps you, and your a little more aggressive. i have all the metal/punk i need right now.

so my question is this, what is some good rap artists. i just downloaded the new T.I. cd, and its pretty good i guess. i really overplayed that still tippin song last summer. it just sounded too good on the boat, lol. maybe some rap that follows that kindof style. none of that E-40 hyphy crap. more mellow.

any suggestions?

Check out the new Franchize Boyz, Chamillionaire, Pimp C, Bub B, Young Jeezy, Paul Wall, Lil' Wayne...... I dont really like to listen to rap when I ride, I prefer Offspring, All-American Rejects, Guttermouth, Lit, New Found Glory, and Sum 41.....Punk music helps me ride better I think!

I've been listening to a ton of westcoast/northwest "indie" hip hop. I'm more into good beats and the occasional intelligent lyric.. I'm so white.

Anyway, groups to check out:

Swollen Members(a must, there isn't a snowboard movie/ski movie without them)
Blue Scholars(Hard to find, they are from Seattle, I think they have a myspace..)
Zion I
Prefuse 73
RJD2
DJ Shadow
The last 3 are mostly instrumental

A Tribe Called Quest is pretty relaxed rap/hip hop. Also Blackalicious, John Legend, Mase, and Shyne

1) Mac Dre, go download "Ronald Dregan: Dreganomics" off of itunes it slaps out on the water. And while your at it get the rest of his albums like "Young Black Brotha"... "Stupid Doo Doo Dumb"..."Thizzelle Washington"..."Genie of the Lamp"... "Al Boo Boo"..."The Game Is Thick Vol.2"..."Heart Of A Gangsta, Mind of a Hustler, Tongue of a Pimp"...and a few more

Also try Balance "Young and Restless"
and the new E40 album "My Ghetto Report Card"

d*RU*nk, I'm not a big fan of any rap, however, southern rap is whats hot now. If I had to choose one style it would be southern rap....

Ian_82, Just so you know there are a lot of better "hyphy" songs than "Tell Me When To Go" that is like the only song people around the nation have heard, here in the bay there are sooo many better hyphy songs than that...

so i downloaded the "swishahouse" cd called posted up at the all star somethin.

its got guys on it like paul wall, TI, lil wayne, lil keke, tony yayo. thing is, it happens to be one of those cd's where rnadomly some dude comes in and says "watch for the new cd droppin next summer" and stuff.

and this swisha house stuff, all it is is they slow the song way down, and put a scratch in now and then. actually, half the songs sound like they are literally skipping.

i think i need to delete this. its kinda what i was lookin for, but a little too much.

I personally can't stand the "mainstream" rap or the rap you hear on the airwaves nowadays. Like Paul Wall, TI, Lil' Wayne, etc. I just feel like they all have terrible lyrics and their beats are corny. And most of them have really annoying voices like Lil Wayne he sounds like he just went through puberty and Paul Wall sounds like he is mumbling. Just my 2 cents.

Try Sweatshop Union. They are in a lot of wakeboarding DVD's. I think they are in Encore/Relentless a few times.

Try Andre Nickatina as well, a lot of "skater-type" people like his stuff for some reason. I'll save you the trouble if you want to hear one of his songs...http://beta.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=6C46D8902D0D2D3D

Sounds like a mixtape to me, I can't stand it when people blab over songs...

especially when its about 5 notches of volume over the song. so when you got it cranked, the whole lake hears it. haha. oops.

anyways, ill be sure and cheack all this stuff out.

i gotta say, i know the CD came out last year, but the mike jones CD would be awesome if you didnt hear "who? mike jones!" every song about 10 times.

hijacking my own thread.

DJTOY_2000 who is on this board and a personal friend, had his celica in a car show (http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/393000-393999/393452_51_full.jpg) and met mike jones. totally had no clue who he was, and later found out from some hysterical girls. i find it funny that in the CD mike jones talks about if you dont know his name your in trouble. im sure he was dumbfounded by djTOY 2000 when he made no mention of the music, or it actually being mike jones, WHO?

Awww dont be knockin that dirty third coast rap Wink We been banging swisha house and tha color changin click behind the boats since the early 90s when their studio quality sounded more like a recordable tape deck.. Ya'll didnt KNOWWWW back then... I blame that mind washing noise for the vehicle in my profile.. Laughing

We still bang it.. but the guys who went main stream are selling out. Mike Jones aint nothing but a promoter... Its all about the under ground. These days I'd still rather listen to Swollen Members and Indie hip anyways tho.

BoarderX, I agree with you on that. I think the bay area is close to "blowing up" similar to how the south did. I find it funny how it took 3 years for Slim Thugs song "Still Tippin" to make it big in the mainstream, everybody around the world thought that song was brand new when MTV started playing it...lol!

The same thing goes for the bay, just the other day MTV said something about keak da sneak being "E-40's new artist, and protege" and appearing in the "Tell Me When To GO" video with him...what they don't realize is that Keak has been selling records independantly and out of his trunk since way back in 1997, we in the bay have been bumpin his stuff since he was like 17 years old in the group ormerly known as 3xcrazy....

...to wrap up my point F the mainstream, Indie is where you will find the best music IMO

being a fan of punk music myself, i totally know all about the "F the mainstream" mentality. its always nice to see your fav artists make a living, but its also nice to listen to what you like, not what the radio or MTV says is good.

on a side note, as i said, i was guilty of playin the hell outta "Still Tippin" last summer.

i have a feelin TI's what you know will be the new still tippin. haha.

oh, and i dl'ed some Wu Tang, never been a big fan, but i got that enter the wu (36 chambers) and it isnt bad.
