I was just thinking about how many wakeboard companies have come and gone over the years. How many boards do/did you own from companies that are no longer around?
My list...
Skurfer - Rage
Surf Alley - Slam Channel
Neptune - Six
Neptune - Impalla (I think my riding peaked on this board. It also gave me my first concussion.)
Wake Tech - Big Daddy (Bought this to teach people. I have no idea how Nelson did what he did on one of these!)
Double Up - Wright
Blindside - Session
Blindside - Patterson
Blindside - McKee _________________ Why Vegan? |

I started in 98 also, and my first board that I used was a wake tech flight 69. My first board that I bought was a Hyperlite Tara Hamilton 137. _________________ http://kmags.mybrute.com/

I didn't realize that Blindside was gone! Didn't know that Tara had a pro model either.
I'm not an old timer to the sport, but I had a D-Up Murphy last year. _________________

| Double Up is still in business, just not in the US right now. I think the same is true for Blindside. I think they were both sold. (somebody correct me if I am wrong) |

First of all, define old timer.
Second of all, who you calling old?
Anyway, I didn't know half those companys were out of business now. That kinda sucks. I used to really like Blindside and my good friend had a lot of Neptune gear. Oh well, times change right? I guess I will have to have a drink tonight in honor of there memory. |

I meant oldtimer as someone who's been around the sport for a long time, not age. I would consider Froggy an oldtimer even though he's still a little punk.
I know Double Up is "still" around but it isn't really the same thing so I counted them.
I never owned one but I really liked that Sound board Todd B. (R.I.P.) used to ride. Same thing with Horrel's gigantic Full Tilt. _________________ Why Vegan? |

I'll define "old timer" as over 40 and been riding since 1985 or so.
My first board was the first production run Skurfer.
Essentially call Skurfer Hyperlite a little of Liquid Force. Tony Finn started Skurfer and now runs Liquid Force.
Blindside and Double Up is non-North American only. No more R&D money - just production. _________________ Original Boarder from 1983

Its all About the Blidnside Epic 142... with Low Rider bindings...
I was only about 3 ft with that hefty board but thought it was the balls.
also.. can anyone imagine a binding company advertising bindings with a low wrap as a good thing now?! haha _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

Started in 91, on the first HO, I think it was called the Rage. Then got a Connely RazerBlade. Then another HO with the first set of Highrap bindings. Next was the HyperLite BAFF. My friend had the Neptune Six, what a crasy board and then the Impalla, that thing was revolutionary. I got the FreeMotion Josh Smith and that still is one of my favorite boards, I wish I could find one to add it back to my collection.
Then I got the hookup with O'Brien:
Crow
Phatty
Shifty
Swindle
Suspect (I actually named this one!)
Cobe
Option
Player
Vision
Demented
Valhalla
and now the Natural!
I guess I have had my fair share of boards....
Later,

I started riding in '92. My first board that I bought was the Connelly Hawaiian Ski (skurfer style), but obviously, CWB is still in business. I've riden a lot of boards from companies still in business, but the one's that have gone out that I can remember are:
WakeTech Big Air
WakeTech Flight 69
Neptune Six
Neptune Impala
BlindSide DTII - the sweet olive argyle - still one of my favorite graphics
Stinger - ?
Full Tilt - Weddington - Mega Man
Full Tilt - Cobe - CMPro
Rusty Boards - 141
BlindSide - Charley Patterson (2 versions)
DoubleUp - Nelson 140
DoubleUp - Nelson 141
DoubleUp - Collin 143 - My riding probably peaked on this board - I loved the way it rode
Man, I think that's all of them.
Of the companies still in business that I've ridden; O'Brien, CWB, Liquid Force (the original Shannon Best).
I'm riding the O'Brien Natural this year. _________________ "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." President John F. Kennedy |
