| so today i ran into Dan DeLaiarro. old school from way back. We started talking, and this guy has to be one of the most sensable people I have ever met. Despite all the tatoos. He started talking about how "stupid" people have gotten. The fact they need the biggest wake possible is ridiculous. Dan learned behind a fishing boat. He hit me with possibly the greatest quote. "A big wake behind a decked out boat will only get you so far". So true..... |

| its stupid, wakeboarding comes from small wakes. thats its roots. you can still pull a shitload of moves to get you sponserd behind a direct or i/o. personally i like directs better. no point in dropping all this cash. and if space is the issue buy an i.o |

| Were his comments toward just recreational riders, or did it include pro level riders? |

i don't know about you guys, but i'm not exactly a pro, so it's nice having a bigger wake just to make things a little easier. sure, you can do just about anything riding small wakes if your technique is good, but, with the same cut, you're ALWAYS going to go bigger on bigger wakes. it's simple physics. i would love to have perfect technique and be able to go huge behind any boat, but, until then, i will continue to get "suckered" into the v-drive hype. i learned behind a bass boat and certainly didn't maximize its potential, but i have no plans to go back any time soon.
for the record, i believe in learning HS and TS wake jumps, an invert or two, all the 180's (except TS BS), and general board control--regular and switch--before adding any ballast. that way, you're forced to learn good techniques and fundamentals without relying on the wake. after that, sink that bad boy |

JV, What I was getting at was for most rec. riders he is right. It is possible to stop progressing with smaller wakes though, so eventually you will want a bigger wake, so you can do more advanced tricks, and get more air. pretty much like you said.
If all his comments were aimed at all wakeboarders, then that is a pretty stupid thing to say. |
