Choosing between two Hyperlite boards

So I'm choosing between two hyperlite boards and I'd love some of y'all opinions. I'm still a bit new to this game and any advice I can get is appreciated. So what does everyone think of...

2004 Era 142 (packaged with Era bindings)
2005 Temet 142.3 DNA

I'm sure plenty of y'all don't like Hyperlite products, but these are what I've decided to chose between.

you are new to the game but you want to pick a board without ever riding on it ? And it must be a hyperlite huh ?

Why not just splurge for the Parks DNA 142 with parks bindings and parks handle and vest and maybe buy an X-Star...You'll be stompin 9's in no time. Laughing

Seriously, even if the only dealer close to you is Hype, don't limit yourself. Most people will say to demo, and yes, it is a good idea, but at your level I don't beleive you'll be able to tell what the difference between many boards are. I would reccomend not-so-pro level board, Like a Liquid Force Omega or the Evo (new named one or last years..same shape), that will allow you to progress more easily because you won't be overwhelmed by the features of a pro level board. Buying a pro board if you are only a beginner is like putting a 15 year old behind the wheel of a Ferrari, yes the 15 year old feels cool but he can't handle the power.

Both are GREAT boards............I feel the Temet is a little more user friendly.

The Temet has a continuous rocker line on it, while the era has a subtle 3-stage. Both bases of these boards have some channels running the full length of the board so they should both be pretty stable if you just cruising behind the boat (not squirrly). Also the Era has the base of the OLD Premier board. Just with slightly less rocker. The temet also like said before has a wierd fin setup. The 2 fins on the nose of the board are spread wider than the ones on the tail, this helps when you flip the board switch the wider fins are now in the rear and wider fins make the board track through the water with more stability.

Regerding demoing a board before buying...
This isn't a very good option for me in that there isn't a good store that does this within 50 miles of me. There's only one place that will demo, but they only do it for brand new boards, 2006 models, and I am not about to drop $400-$600 on a set-up. My limited experience has been on a buddy's Temet 138 that is too small for me, but has allowed me to learn some of the basics.

Regarding purchasing a board that is perhaps more for the intermediate rider...
I have no desire to buy a beginner board, out grow it, and then have to buy another board. I'd like to buy something that I can have for a few years that I can continue to learn on. I may be wrong, but I see no reason why I, as a beginner, can't advance on an intermediate board that may be a little beyond me right now.

Finally, regarding all of you Hyperlite haters...
Get over yourselves. Are they the best, debatable. Are the the evil Satan because they are good at marketing their product, absolutely not.

You're right. I guess only one response so far was really anti-hyperlite. I just get a little tired of searching for info on a specific board and reading all the replys that are not constructive.

Honestly both of those boards ride great. I was blown away by how well the temet rode, I really didnt think I would like it and I ended up riding half of the season on it. That said, the Era doesnt ride radically different. I know they have differnt rocker patterns, but I found no difference in the amount of pop and both landed smooth. For some reason I just felt more comfortable on the temet though.

Most people can't demo, go w/ a temet if that's what you've ridden before, safest way I'd say, also, what you start w/ is what you're going to feel comfortable with, not saying another board might suit you better, but you have a feel for a temet already. It's all about personal preference, ride what you like, and Bubb Rubb what anyone else says about it. Do a little research on cont. and 3-stages. A lot of good info and honest people around here. Aint a damn thing wrong with a hyperlite =P

Temet for sure, although you should check out ebay for the 05 package deals at the moment. You should be able to find a decent set-up for a cheap price.

A lot of people have reccomended the Temet/Murray but I could not disagree more. It is hands down one of the worst boards I have ever been on. Check that, it is the worst board I have ridden and I was riding back in '98. It feels like you have to constantly pull to keep the board under you. My shoulders burned after about ten minutes and I regularly work out. Eveyone else that tried it had the same burning experience. Perhaps there was something wrong with that particular board but I've hear and seen posts from other people on the boards describing the same thing.

I don't know your level of experience but if you haven't ridden much then maybe you won't notice the difference of the slow and gripping nature of the Temet. Anywho, I'd go with the Era if you're sure you want one of those two boards and can't demo them.

Oh, and Hyperlite is awesome!
