|
|
we are in the process of thinking about putting the boat out on a slip at the lake. we can only have a hydro-hoist type lift but my question is this.
the docks at the marina are floating docks. i havent discussed this with the marina but i was wondering if there was a cheap way to lift the boat outta the water? here is the idea, 2 sets of ratchet/hand crank style straps under the boat to lift and lower the boat, like the straps they use at the big marinas to "cradle" the boats when lifted out. would this be too much weight on the dock to handle or what? how are the hydro-hoists mounted? basically 2 tow straps that cradle the boat. questions or comments please. _________________ Cummins powered |

i dont think they would be to keen on that. you can find a good used hydra hoist type lift for around $1k. if you keep in on the lake, make sure to get a good cover that will help keep out the bugs and snakes ect... _________________ Can't we all get along? |

midwesty, ummm
From experience: DO NOT PUT YOUR BOAT IN THE WATER AT MEAD WITHOUT A LIFT.
You cannot use a sling lift as it must be attached to pylons. Your only choice is a ballast-type lift.
I like poly-lift over hydrohoist. The poly tanks will never die. Even galvy will break down over time, and that Mead water isn't totally friendly, especially in algae bloom season.
Trust me on this one, it did one nasty ass number to my Sea-Ray. _________________

| Floating docks are not engineered to support the weight of boats using a mechanical lift. Floating lifts are going to be the only game in town. It would probably be tought to find a lift for $1K, but you should be able to find used for < $2.5K. Just need to troll the local paper, internet sites, and local lift installers - they know when someone is upgrading and have used ones for sale. |

midwesty, when I was busting through the narrows at 35mph in 2' of chop, I was laughing at guys like you doing 10 and getting pounded.
25' and a long sleek design is a good thing sometimes. _________________
