A few years ago I was trying some hs 3's, landing on the board and riding away but popping the handle, but then I had two VERY hard falls and have been gun shy ever since. So last night I tried some ts and hs 3's and doing the same thing popping the handle, then it happened again. Caught an edge and went down HARD. I haven't had that kind of fall even doing raily's or any other invert. What can I do different? I'm keeping my head up, handle pass no problem. Any pointers?

I have said to my buddies many times "I took some of the hardest falls so far learning spins instead of inverts"....

Spins are harder than people think one reason why I love spinning so much.

The only tip or pointer I would give you is lean away from the boat a bit for your landing... so everything is in balance the take off the spin all that but when you go to land lean away from the boat either TS / HS it wont matter. This puts you in a position that will be harder for the board to catch edge.

So for my TS 3 I pop, pull, pass (late) and on the way down I look at the wake behind me and lean away from the boat. You can almost do the TS 3 this way with out even passing the handle, if you lean enough (I still pass).

Most likely your getting pulled to hard by the handle and edge crashing/ popping the handle as a result.
Take alittle less of a progressive edge and as your coming off the wake pull alittle harder on the handle. That will cause your body to advance on the rope so the pass will be easy, it won't be hard to hold onto when you land and it won't pull you over your board. good luck

I can remember a fall I had learning 3's two years ago....pain oh the pain!
But I got back up.
What Krashr31 said will help.
Also don't do it half assed. Commit to it.

Also try grabbing the board slob or something, cuz when you grab you automatically bring the handle in close so if you can grab the handle fast enoough the 3 will be that much easier.

I also noticed crashing alot harder trying to learn hs fs 3's this weekend and what I did was suck my knees way up towards my chest to the point where my hand half the time would hit the board slob trying for the handle pass but the crashes were no where near as bad

Yes, the slob grab helps keep everything nice and compact. It's an easy grab and puts your hand right there for the handle.
