what does the d50 offer that the d70 doens't, not talking about lenses, body only.
thanks
all im looking to do is take some nice sequence shots of wakeboard jumps annd just general picture taking on vacations and such. |

in other words, what makes the d70 so much more than the d50?
and btw, i already have lenses from a n70, would those be compliant on the d50? i know they would on a d70. |

scott a, ya i looked at all that yesterday and just got way confused, i didn't really understand all the camera lingo.
one of the only things i saw different was that the d70 has faster shutter speeds but i don't know how significant that is to cost 200 dollars more. |

Well, My advice would be buy the d50, as a beginner you'll find this camera to be a very good learning tool. Use that for a couple of years and then think about an upgrade. I'm sure you'll have a much better grasp on everything and a far better understanding of what features you'll want/need in a camera. I believe your old nikkor lens's will work on both of the bodies(but do a little research any way) do you know what mount style they are or about how old they are? _________________ http://www.integrity-wake.com

I agree with RUSSIAN. If this is your first digital SLR, start with something on the cheaper end. Once you spend a lot of time using the camera, you will discover what features you need and what don't matter as much. Learn to use the camera really well, shoot with manual settings, and then decide whether spending more money is worth it to you. You won't be disappointed with a d50 as a starter camera.
Also, if you're looking to upgrade something in the future, start with glass. Digital camera bodies depreciate quickly and have been consistantly replaced with new models every 1.5-2.5 years. Lenses are often not replaced for 10 years or more, and have a much better resale value. A good lens will last a LONG time. |

only problem with the D50 (and its up to you to consider whether it is a killer) compared to the D70s is that the display is not backlit.
Most of the reviews I have read say the D50 performs better than the D70s in terms of noise as it has a better processing alogrithm. |

The D50 and D70 are both superb cameras. If you're not looking to pursue photography as a career and are just wanting a camera for enjoyment, then definitely go with the D50. Mainly, because of the price difference. The D50 will perform awesome, and I really think you'll be surprised at the images you'll be able to get with it.
Also, I don’t think that your lenses will mount up correctly. If I’m not mistaken the N70 uses a F-Mount lenses while the D50 uses D-Mount lenses. |
