Hey i Want to put some speakers on my boat so i can hear the music from behind the boat. What companies should i look at and wat are some of the good / bad things about having speakers on your boat. I talked to a sales person from the boat show and they said it was a bad investment cause apparantly people steal the speakers? has anyone had this happen to them? Anyways Post as much info as you can to help me out. Links would be nice aswell

Well, if your worried about your speakers getting stolen (which you should) buy some that are easily removable, and never leave your boat unattended with them on. Whats your price range?

russell21, Monster tower do "double bullets" that are quick release and have 4 speakers... sounds like they'd be in budget ($650 USD). I have them on my SAN and they rock... very loud and very clean sound. I have the tantrum drivers... but there is a Polk option too. from hearing both i prefer the cheaper tantrum drivers.. but those polks do look sweeeeet Cool

Not sure if i know of any other QR speakers like them.. anyone able to throw any other options in? Fusion are doing some awesome products right now... not sure about their 'removability' though.

The sales guy you spoke to gave a strange answer... if the speakers can be removed then its not an issue... if you leave your boat in a parking lot unattended in a dead-end area then sure they will get stolen... along with your boat... even if you go with fixed speakers so long as you look after your boat there's little chance of them getting stolen. I have never known it to be a big issue in the UK

It is a shame that theives play an important role in deciding what options we get on our boats. I am by nature a trusting person and have been burnt a couple of times. There is an old saying: "locks are made for honest people". If you go with a quick release system and forget to take your speakers with you then you are making it real easy for the theif. I have never used a quick disconnect because I worry about tower damage(scratching) and I wonder if the speakers are solid with these types of mounts. Just my .02.

RoughRiverMike, couldn't agree more... it sucks. One of me best buds got his car broken into last night... they didn't just break his damn window they popped his lock and damaged the outer skin of the door so bad (with a screwdriver looks like) that it looks like it will need replacing... all they got was a £100 stereo... and caused a good £700+ in damage... its sad really.

The MT QR works pretty good... it has a tightening bolt if it does come lose... but there may be more better systems out there.... anyone know of anything as another option for russell21,

If you're able to build a set yourself, or have a set custom built, i'd look into some Pro Audio style drivers. Pa stuff is pretty much perfect for use as tower speakers. Maybe do a set of 8" midrange/midbasses with some hlcd's covering the rest.

I really don't know why companies continue to use mobile audio stuff for towers
