Hey guys, i posted this because some of you might be amazed and some might not believe what i say. I am a pretty experienced wakeboarder, and i can throw quite a few inverts BUT ONE!!! i CAN do a whirlybird but i CANT do a Tantrum!!!!! No matter how hard i try i just cannot do the tantrum. Ive read post after post on how to do them and i still cannot do a tantrum. Its ridiculous! Well im not gona lie, im pretty damn stressed out so if you guys got any tips that would be awesome. i ride goofy so i just dont understand how you go from hitting the wake completely perpendicular of the boat to rotating completely parallel with it. Well any tips appreciated thanks in advance guys!!

I don't understand how you can't do a tantrum. It's the exact same concept as the whirly except you don't spin. Rolling Eyes

Guys, i will try to get a video of this, but let me explain what i do. I ride goofy, so when i hit the wake to do a tantrum....i should look behind my leading shoulder and tilt my head back, but i cant do that. so when i hit the wake to do a whirly bird i pop off look at my back shoulder, and pull it back do the spin and bring it down. By doing so, my board never went from perpendicular to the boat to spinning completely parallel to it, i simply pull backwards and do the spin. I guess my problem with the tantrum like i have said before, i just cant go from completely perpendicular to the boat to spning parallel with it, it seems impossible for me for some reason!

you just wanna let ur board do the work...think of it as just a backflip with ur back to the wake, just cut in super hard then at the bottom of the wake ease of turn ur board and stand tall wait for the pop and lean with ur head back a lil dont look over shoulders

two big tips that helped me with them.

stand tall when you hit the wake and are turning your shoulders. come in with a lot of speed. i take my crouched approach but make sure to stand way tall when i hit the wake. I naturally take my back hand off right when im hitting the wake, this also helps you square up to the wake.

don't huck your feet, huck your head and chest, hucking just feet makes just your feet turn then you land all folded up, since you're shoulders and chest didn't move with the flip.. least from my experience.

good luck

I actually been having the same kind of problem. I have been trying to learn tantrums for a while now and can't keep front spinning. I haven't landed a tantrum or a whirly but have come closer to a whirly (but not actually trying to do a whirly). I have no problems with back flips on the trampoline so I can't figure out why I start spinning when I attempt a tantrum. Maybe I should just try to do a whirly instead.

I landed my first tantrum yesterday. I had tried about 9 times before I landed it. It's actually my first landed trick. Everytime I tried, except for one, I got closer to a whirly bird. The way I fixed my problem was when I hit the way I take my back hand off and throw it back. You HAVE to have your shoulders parallel to the wake, keep that in mind. Instead of taking your hand off and leaving it near the middle of your body, simply throw it backwards, and you won't spin Smile

Those of you saying you don't see what the problem is... it, now, seems to be a common mistake. Smile

liquid_helix, put your bicep in front of your face not behind your head. I hope that helps.

you do a 180 spin when you do a whirly right? so what is it called if you do a 3 instead of a 180?

DunDunDun, A whirly is a tantrum ole BS 360 not a tantrum 180...in other words if your not familiar with the term ole, you are rotating the handle around your head, not passing the handle at all.

tantrum- let the backside of your board catch an edge at the crest of the wake to initiate the flip. letting go of the handle with ur backhand is also key. By the way, no trick done the right way, requires one to 'HUCK' their body.

DunDunDun, a tantrum with a FS 180 is called tantrum to fakie,a tantrum with a BS 180 is called tantrum 2 blind

spicychalupa69, approach the wake hard and at the peak of the wake stand as tall as possible to get maximum pop,let go with your back hand and throw it back along with your head, then bring your knees up as far as possible to your chest for the rotation

i too, can do a whirly without a tantrum haha. i did tantrums for about a week 3 years ago but then i completely lost it and always spun blind so i just tried whirlies almost as a joke then one day i actually landed one and now it's one of my easiest tricks... if you don't believe me check out my friend and my website http://www.wakeburton.com/home.html and click on one of my videos. i believe the guys that are sayin they can do whirlybirds without a tantrum
