With the stock thread of last year, I did fairly well. Thanks to all who contibuted. I added some stocks that I was not really looking at to my portfolio that did pretty good. Since the DOW hit 11000 yesterday, I thought it was time to start a new thread to see what the rest of you guys were gonna get into this year.
Right now I'm holding
NVT - Navtec
INTL - Intel
MU - Micron
HGSI - Human Genome
ESLR - Evergreen Solar
IMCL - Imclone
Anybody else care to throw in? _________________

If you will, I would like to hear your explanations for why these are good picks. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

I'm not saying these are good picks, Just what I have right now.
NVT - Navtec -Picked up from last thread, Just holding right now
INTL - Intel -Had previously, We do alot of constuction work for Intel so as long as they are builing I feel it is somewhat safe.
MU - Micron -Had some in the past, just picked it up gain because it was mentioned
HGSI - Human Genome -See Intel
ESLR - Evergreen Solar -I knew absolutely nothing about it but it was mentioned and the price was right
IMCL - Imclone -See Intel and Human Genome
I'm looking to add some more and I would rather diversify than buy more in thes companies since my portfolio is fairly thin. _________________

I always try and think of what is going to be popular in the future. I'll take a personal example for ya. 3 years ago, plasma TVs came out. Everyone thought they were cool but obviously they were too expensive for most. Now that they have reached a price that the critical mass can afford them, they come on my radar. Do I buy stock in TV manufacturers? Heck no. You buy stock in the suppliers. Say for example the chips that power the Plasma/LCD/DLP's. You want to buy things before the sheeple get in. The internet is a great example. We are just now realizing the potential of the internet but the expectations were high in the late 90's. Buy the rumor, sell the news. I try and figure out what will be big in 5-10 years and profit on the over-hyping of said product. Then sell that and buy the companies that will actually profit from said product once it reaches fruition. _________________ Steal My Book

I have a strong BUY on Sirius Satelite Radio right now. Around here, and the big city suppliers can't keep receivers in stock (that means they are getting a lot of subsribers) Plus at less than $7.00 a share it's hard to pass up. _________________ Brent B

I've had Sirius since it was $5.00, but I'm going in for more...my best pick has been UARM (Under Armour) bought at $22.00 up to $37.00 in less than a month and going higher...should have bought more, but funds were limited...potential talk Nike is going to buy out, if not they just announced today the move to Europe...$$$$ |

AAPL, Definitely keep watching Apple. The whole computer lineup will be intel by the end of the year, also watch for a bigger push into the living room. I see a name change from iTunes Music Store, to iTunes Media store, or something similar. Possibly Airport Express A/V, so instead of wirelessly streaming your music to your stereo in the other room, you wirelessly stream your video. Look for an on demand service in conjunction with the media store...Right now Apple has endless possibilities IMO. Some will dispute, but thats always true.
SIRI, Sirius Sattellite radio...to me its a tough one, I own it, I use it and I've done well with it. For me, Sattelite Radio is great, and I really do prefer Sirius over XM (the rest of my family has it), but I don't know if I see it as a strong performer. They still aren't making money. They are closing the Gap, but honestly...500 million for Stern!? Come on.
TXN, Texas Instruments. They are always a strong buy, DLP is HUGE and getting bigger and it's all theirs. TI's only problem is that they cannot market for Crap.
SUNW, Sun Microsystems. It's a cheapie. With Google and SUN teaming up, and the rumors that Google will be coming out with a PC and an operatiing system, I bet Sun has a good bit to do with that. Warning, this stock is the definition of a Dog.
Those are the ones that I follow closely... |

pyrocasto,
How did you come across such a diverse watch list?
Anyway, from the crazy amount of information I've packed into my head about stocks over the past couple of months, and analyzing your watch list, FLEX looks like it has some buyage potential right around now... |

Chales, that's about 4 months of searching. I'm a poster on quite a few different investing forums, and search other people's portfolios as well. Got some from Fortune magazine, and got some from search through amounts of inside buyers, and growth.
Just look up every stock that's been sugguested to me and keep the ones that look good. I've had some bad luck lately with trading as I've bought and sold to quickly, almost getting into day trading.
I'm going to start holding on for longer periods of time I believe. _________________

pyrocasto,
I'm no expert, but don't you have to worry about taxes and commissions from short-term trading as well? |

Not a big stock guy but my Mutal Funds, IRA and Roth IRA are up over 7k in the last 3 months, if it keeps going at this rate that up 28k+ this year -amount put in. A couple new ones I got into last months are up 4-5% already this year with double digit % gains projected, I know it's only projected but still got to make ya happy _________________
