Has anyone ever had to repair the gelcoat on a metalflake boat. I really want to get the Metalflake on the X-star, but I am concerned with how easily it can be repaired vs standard gel. I realize that this is negative thinking, but occasionally my wife does drive the boat and she cant seem to find the break peddal.

I don't have metal-flake, but I talked to a boat 'bodyshop' guy and he said it can be difficult. He's even had to hand lay the individual metal flake in some repairs.

Metal flake...oh man.

Doesn't that mostly belong on Bass boats? When I was a kid, I thought it helped attract bass. Now I realize it's more to attract rednecks.

No offense, just having a little fun.

my family owns a bass boat and i wasn't offended at all. i just don't get it. apparently, there must be some unwritten law that all bass boats must be sparkly. i live in texas on a lake and, without fail, every other house--even the beat-up shanties with old cars up on blocks--has a brand-new 3/4 ton pick-up and a shiny bass boat with a 250 hp outboard in the garage or at the dock. texas in a nutshell

It is harder to repair metal flake than standard gel, but it does look pretty cool. A bunch of the MC Promo boats went out with a silver metal flake gel coat and it looks awesome.

Check my profile. Im from Kentucky. I don't profess to be a redneck myself, but the resale will be great, especially if I get it in a nice kentucky wildcat blue. There are no bigger rednecks anywhere in the world. I'll just tell them that the boat was once owned by Tubby Smith. Just Kidding CAT fans.

Mike,
There are big giant rednecks EVERYWHERE. Even oddball places like Maine. You could tell them up there that it was Tom Brady's boat.

MORE METALFLAKE. Anyone got any pics of metalflake MC's? I thought it was pretty bold to come out with that when they did. I haven't seen one up close, even at the ATL boat show.

i think if you have the colors right on the boat with the metal flake it can turn out great but, i have seen some mc's that have metal flake and other colors that just clash and make it look like a bling bling boat

Yah, that is right. you can get a little wierd with some boat colors. When you see colors in a catalogue, you think they would look great together, but when they are on a boat they look like s**t. Mastercraft offers 6 different metalflake colors for the Xstar. I have seen the silver, fire red, and navy blue. I really loved all of them. My MC dealer is letting us go with a custom color and gave us over 30 to choose from. The problem is getting the family to agree. Right now we are leaning toward a medium blue (kind of the color on a miller lite can) metalflake with a yellow (not metalflake) hull and yellow above the rub rail. It looks great on the build-a-boat on their web site. on the site you have to use navy blue.

pilot ryder,
I was wondering about the gold metalflake. When you say pimped out gangster bling boat, is that to your liking. I'm really having a difficult time with this. I want the boat to stand out, but I don't want half of the people that see it to think it looks like garbage. They don't give these Xstars away and I don't want to make a 70K mistake.

ya i didnt really like the gold at all but i think any x-star will stand out no matter what, i mean its an x-star. but if i were to choose a metalflake color it would probably be either blue or red imo, but whatever color you choose im sure it will stand out
RoughRiverMike are you getting the x-star with the old school graphics or the new ones?

I'm going with the old school graphics. I'm probably going to use something in the mastercraft by design selection. They have about 6 different to choose from. I saw my MC dealer at a new years party yesterday and he told me that the factory showed him some new graphics a couple of weeks ago. The are going to get those out soon acording to him. The "new school" graphics on the Xstar are probably going to grow on me eventually. He has one at his shop with the new graphics. They look good from a distance, but up close the look cheap IMO.

I've seen the X-Star in blue metalflake with the tribal graphics and it was totally killer. It looked like it could have been a Cigarette boat or some kind of race boat.
