How about some gel coat tech?
My new to me boat has a ton of little dock rash, scratches and dings here and there. I'm pretty sure I can get about 80-90% of it with simple elbow grease. But I dont want to destroy the paint, which is still in good shape.
What's the best way to clean up a boat like this? So far I've heard first thing is a good rub down with Acetone to get the dock rash. Clay bar rub? Zano? Or just good old wax on, wax off? _________________ My beer drinking friends have a wake boarding problem. |

I just start with a good wash and then break out the high speed buffer, wool pads and 3M superduty compound.
Before:
After:
I tried elbow grease and my PC 7424 and it didn't do squat to the fading or scratches. Gelcoat is extremely hard so it really needs the high-speed. Follow with a good wax and/or sealer so the finish stays nice and glossy. |

Sick job Bremsen! Thats what I'm talking about!
I'm pissed. I had a elec. buffer and I just found out my wife tossed it last weekend thinking it was broken. They are cheap, I'll get another.
So, wool pads and 3M is the ticket eh? I'm all over it.
Thanks! _________________ My beer drinking friends have a wake boarding problem. |

Thanks fellas. It was definately worth the time/energy/$$.
Loppy,
The buffer/polishers I'm talking about run about $200. They are circular, not orbital, and can destroy finishes quickly if you don't know how to use them. Its not quite as dangerous on gelcoat b/c of its thickness and hardness, so just read the guide and you'll be alright.

Got it bud. Those look like angle grinders to me.
I've got several things like that, just have to get the right pad and base. I think however I'm just going to start by hand and see how it goes. Stay safe. _________________ My beer drinking friends have a wake boarding problem. |
