hey ive been flying a kite around for a bit now and im quite confident with figure of 8s, turning, depowering the kite and relaunching the kite am i now able to start water dragging. i have heard this term used quite a bit but what is it and how do i do it. i realise that it is letting the kite pull you through the water but how to i get to this stage. Thanks

Body dragging is just taking some time in the water to move the kite at full power, but without the board. in other words, when you are learning on land, you cant really use a full sized kite, or move it with any spedd because you would be lifted and dragged across the land. So you launch the full sized kite, and walk into the water carefully, in a sideshore wind. then you move the kite more aggresively and learn how the kite pulls and how much power it has. Since you are doing it in water, as it picks you up and drags you around, you wont get hurt. You end up coming back to shore way downwind, and have to land your kite and walk it all back.

good luck!

OR.... you learn to bodydrag upwind - that will save you alot of grief once you start loosing your board... or the day you get overpowered and riding back becomes hazardous.

simply get into a superman posture laying flat in the water, one arm stretched out in front of you, and the other hand on the bar for controlling your kite - keep it around 45 degrees, do some sinewaves if you must. now, just point your leading arm upwind with your legs apart for balance - do some tacks in each direction and youll end up where you started.

dont get on a board before you know how to manage without! Smile

have fun - downwind bodydragging like jason described lets you feel the power - its fun! Cool

lmao! that pic is sick! so how do you get back to your car after kite boarding? do you have to hitch hike back after going so far? or is it like sailing where you can manipulate the wind to get you back?

You usually only go downwind when you learn. Once you got it dialed then yes, you can move upwind just like a sailboat. Then you come in at the same spot you left, with no walking.

Can you use the kite to lower you slowly like a parachute when you take it to the top floor? I have always wondered?
