|
|
Hey all! It's about that time to winterize the boat and what not. My v-drive oil (blue unit) so i need to top it off or possibly suck the old out and replace with some new.
Boat is a 2000 23v Tige with a 350 MagMPI engine. Local dealer says to only use Shell 90w but I can't find this junk anywhere.
What is everyone using in their boats?

pcm2a,
Most Tige' dealers have a preference as to which oils/transmission fluids/products they feel perform the best in our boats. This usually based on their personal experience and on-water-testing.
If you are having a hard time finding Shell 90w, you can also try the following:
You could use most any 30w oil. These will be easier to find, however, the v-drive may not run as quite using those as much as others.
For quiter performance, you can use Exxon Spartan EP-68, Shell Omala 68, Mobil Mobilgear 626 or Lubriplate APG-80.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

West Marine recomends Quicksilver 80w-90 gear lube. Will this work fine? _________________ Visit www.nashvillewakeboarder.com for riders in the Nashville, Tn area! |

pcm2a,
Quicksilver is a MerCruiser product and is not one of the products suggested by Walter for their v-drive units. And I've never heard of a dealer using it, of course that's not to say that none have.
I would stick to one of the approved products that I listed above.

I was unable to find any of those products at West Marine or various auto part stores. Can someone list some online companies that will sell me a few quarts of the recomended product?

Still searching for what oil to use and where to buy it.
The most confusing item of interest that I have received from the above posts and from Tige is that I should use a Shell 90w Gear Lube. BUT if I cannot find a shell 90w then I should use any 30w!
There is an extreme difference between Shell 90w and a SAE 30w. Wouldn't it be better to use some other brand 90w or an 85w-90 instead of dropping down to a very thin 30w?
I have found many autoparts stores that sell 80w, 85w, 90w, 85w-90 gear lubes, just not a shell brand.
Thanks for any advice. _________________ Visit www.nashvillewakeboarder.com for riders in the Nashville, Tn area! |
