|
|
Okay, the time has come for somebody to help out a brother. I started Flipsell.com back in 1999 because there were no wakeboard/ski boat specific sites online for poor guys like me to find a boat. Since then I've run the site free to all - free to list, free to contact sellers, and free to post photos. 6 Years later, and countless monthly payments to a webhosting company, my charity business model has continued to run strong, steadily bleeding me out. Anyway, I still do it because I believe that the only way to get a lot of buyers and sellers in our industry together is to do it free. We wakeboarders are a bunch of cheap guys!
So I've now gone two seasons without a boat while I built my house. These were the last two seasons I'll ever go without a boat. I now have a budget of up to $12,000 or so to buy back in (I'd have more, but those cheap wakeboarders don't pay to list their boats on my site!). I need a true inboard or V-Drive, preferably equipped with a tower, and I'm married now, so it needs to be somewhat clean - no ghetto boats please. If you have the perfect ski boat with a super flat wake, you need not apply. Big fat wakes only, please. I'm located in New Jersey, but I'm not afraid of travelling to pick up my new addition. If anyone out there wants to extend me an offer, send me photos and details to brad@jclayton.com Help me help you. Thank you all, and good night. |

| When you say fatty wake with that price range you know the boat that comes to evyerone's mind. So why don't you just go ahead and start looking at 2001 SN. If it doesn't have a tower on it monster towers is only a call away. Plus they are a price point product too. I know I've posted before I didn't care for monster but that is only because they don't fit the style of my boat. However they are on of the better looking towers on a 2001 SN IMO. The only better deal I've ever heard of, when it comes to a fatty wake with that price, was not long ago someone bought a 95 Malibu with one of the recent Wakesetter hulls on it. I've yet to see another. |

| I'm all for the 2001, but I was hoping to sacrifice a little on wake to get either a bow rider or wraparound seating with a V-drive. I would like to be able to fit a few extra people on board - kids are probably next on the wife's list of things she wants... |

You might be able to find a somewhat decent Prostar 205 for that price. _________________ "What counts is not necessarily the size of the the dog in the fight. Its the size of the fight in the dog." - Gen. George S. Patton |

bsclayton, you're going to have a hard time finding an open bow V-drive for $15k. The only option comes to mind would be an early '90s Nautique Excel. There aren't that many out there. It has a very similar hull to the 2001 with a playpen open bow and V-drive. For $15k is going to be tough to squeeze a tower in there though.
The only option you might have for an open bow DD in the $12k range are those late '80s Supras. I doubt you could find a Sport Nautique or PS 205 in decent condition for $12k. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| The Excel is what I figured I end up with, but finding a clean one seems more difficult. I can up the ante if necessary, but I'm trying not to. I also want to leave enough $$ on the table for a jet ski for wakeskating in shallow water. |

Even a late 80's early 90's Sunsetter is going to be close to your budget. If you can find them, they're nice. _________________ Steal My Book

There is a pretty nice Excel on flipsell/planetnautique right now (in VA) for $15.9 with a titan tower. Looks like its in great shapeand you might be able to haggle him down a little. I also ran across several on boattrader.com. Its the only V-drive I know of that you'll find anywhere near 15k.
I agree w/sunsports as well, but heard they can have woodrot problems in the early models due to a design flaw....I don't know for sure but be careful. I've seen a few 89-93 sport nautiques and PS205s in the 10-15k range but not many and most needed work. If you're willing to sacrafice looks you can find CC martiniques for under $10k and I've heard they throw pretty nice wakes.....they're just kinda ugly. |

There's a BEAUTIFUL '95 Prostar 190 with ballast and a tower in the classifieds. It's a bit more money than you want to spend but wow, it's immaculate.
Where are you in Jersey? I'm in Rockland county NY (see sig).

| I'll take a look at the Prostar - I'm in Brick, NJ (By Point Pleasant, Belmar). If you need a pull next season, just let me know. Most of your NYC crowd ends up in our area, so I'm sure you'll find your way down at some point. As for making me look good in front of the chicks, you'll need to submit your trick list in writing three days prior to any visit so that I can confirm that you will in fact make me look good. If your moves far outweigh mine, we can always put you on a kneeboard to even the playing field... |

| 190 Prostars are a good boat. Some people don't know how to weight them and they like to talk crap about them. I'm not saying they are a X-star wake either though. |

SouthWaker, PS190 is a good boat but not a good wake. With a lot of weight they can throw a decent wake (better than most i/os) but the freeboard is not high enough to put enough weight in there to come anywhere close to any of the boats listed above (Nautiques, PS205, Supra). They are just too well suited for skiing and small wakes. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

Am I not reading his posts correctly?.....I don't get it.....a $20k closed bow PS190? What in the above would lead anyone to think that is what he is looking for? |

| Wakebrad, you totally just restated everything I said. I will agree abunch of weight is needed most will say around 1500lbs for the 190. Which then again some of the bigger boats require more weight than that. It is just they have room to put it without it being visable. |

the nauqique excel does not have a similair hull to the old 2001 at all. It shares its hull with the Martinique, barefoot nautique and kinda with the fish nautique.
very deep V. throws a decent wake though.
I saw a 93 sport nautique for sale recently for 13k. (on boattrader...)
that boat has the same hull as the Super air, but it is a DD. _________________ Can't we all get along? |

You can pick up a maxum 210ss for around $17k. These are 22 foot, v drives with the mercruiser 350 engine and are loaded with heater, shower, depth guage, cd player, pop up cleats etc.
I have one and the wake is excellent, they handle great and are awsome boats for the money.

| I actually looked at that one a while back (not in person, though). I couldn't really get any confirmation that the wake was decent, and people seemed to complain that there was no storage space for weight with the integrated platform in back. ANy former owners out there have any comments? |

For 10-15K pick up an early to mid 90s Supra Sunsport, drop a launch pad on either side of the engine, a waterbed mattress in the back storage compartment and another under the front seats and you have yourself a Supra Launch wake. I had a '96, solid fiberglass construction, strong engine, tower and board racks and sold it earlier this year for 15k. If you want one of the best wakes available from a DD with more room than any other DD, check out the Supra Sunsport.
