I have a pair of Oakley O Frames, and I wanted to get another lens. My options on Oakley.com are black or gold iridium. Anybody know the difference in the the way these perform, or how easy it is to see out of them?

check this... courtesy of Backcountry.com

Basically, they are gonna be some pretty dark lenses. They will be awesome on brighter days, not so good on cloudy days.

Laugh Damon, cool site! Looks like they took the data from:

http://oakley.com/technology/lens_tints/

prior40, you could probably buy a new pair of Oakleys on eBay for the same price as a pair of O Frame lens directly from Oakley.

JohnD, thanks! I am considering buying a second pair for the brighter days instead of dealing with replacing the lens. Just curious how dark those would be though.

I thought about buying a pair of black iridium lens for my A Frames, but I too worry they will be too dark. They're fine when I'm in the direct sun, but as soon as I get into the shadows I can't see. Were I ride (Mammoth) there are a lot of shady areas, especially later in the day.

However, having two pairs of goggles is the way to go. It's easier to throw one pair in your trunk or backpack and grab another pair than it is to mess with popping lens in and out.

True, I ride Mammoth also, so I was trying to decide what would be best. I ride Bear, Summit, Tahoe and Shasta as well also, so all kinds of different conditions.
