Hey I just saw on LF.com that theyre coming out with a new waterproof MP3 player for next season. This is great because I have a Dell MP3 player and I havent seen anykind of casing for it. All I see are Ipod casings. Anyways I'm just wondering if anyone has heard anything about the price of these things. Anyone?

It's the same as a currently available model - but it will have the LF name on it. You can check out the existing one at:
http://www.freestyleaudio.com/product.html. It's not terribly cheap, but I think it'd be worth the money.

I thought about getting one. Would that make ear injuries worse? (ear drum "smacks" from catching an edge)

I have spoken to LF about the ear drilling idea from a bad stack... Apparently the headphones are designed to NOT do that... Looks can be deceiving I guess

Seems like earbuds would be beneficial during a bad ear-smack. It would keep the water from penetrating to/through the ear drum.

i was looking at that and battery life is a billion times better than an i-pod.

my u2 has to charge for 5 hours to get 15 hours of playback.

the LF MP3 charges for 1-2 hours and gets 35 some odd hours. thats pretty crazy. it doesnt look bad either

Blindside_137, it doesnt take much to beat an ipod's battery life. but one thing that you need to remember is that the LF mp3 player is flash based (no moving parts) and so it uses less energy. that means the same battery will last longer in the LF mp3 player than it will in an ipod (except nano and shuffle, though apple still managed to make their battery life suck, too). my sony mp3 player gets ~45 hours of use (with equalizer and shuffle and OLED display on) and takes 3 hours max to charge back up fully.

The big screen on the Ipods takes a great deal away from its battery life as well.

Exactly. But, if you turn the contrast or brightness way down, it can last so much longer. The player in the link up there would be great! Small, waterproof, and prolly light. But still it would be cheaper to go for a Shuffle if you're looking for good battery life and finding a waterproof case.

good battery life? from an ipod? are you retarded? the ipod shuffle, as tested by apple, lasts "up to 12 hours." 12 freakin hours! thats it! and after a year's worth of moderate usage expect that to drop to 10 hours per charge if not less. thats just horrible. plain and simple. i hate to always rant about the ipods but some people really need to open up their eyes and see what the rest of the companies are doing. sony's "equivalent" player to the shuffle has a battery that lasts 4 times longer than that!

Scott - Keep hating, we need to spread the word amongst the Kool Aid drinking sheeple that Ipods are over rated and there is a better alternative.

Please tell me you are joking? If I am going to go through the trouble of using itunes, I want a better, bigger capacity player then the shuffle. Plus the shuffle is $99 and a case is $25 but what about the waterproof headphones?

This is a good all in one setup and I don't have to bow to the Apple alter.

The ipod is the Hyperlite of MP3's. People flock to it without trying it, researching it, or testing the competition.

DING DING DING We have a winner!

Anyhow, I'd be interested to know the depth resistance on these. 1M? 10? 100? How far down can you go with one of these?

joedirt00, not necessarily, just wondering what the general resistance is. Waterproof usually means water resistant, not truly waterproof.

Do we have to listen to music 24 hours a day? While we work, go to school, walk, wakeboard...

Think about how much you could get done if you didn't have a constant distraction in your ear. I have thought of 3-4 pretty cool inventions in the last year that I never would have come up with if I had music blaring in my ear all day. Time to reflect is valuable time spent.

With that said, music while I wakeboard I could take or leave. If it's blaring from the boat I barely even notice it, and I don't miss it when it's not there.

Rick M, depends on the size of the songs and the model of player you get.

Mitchell, The arm band is included when you buy it.Rick M, the amount of songs you can have does depend on the size of the file. The size of the file depends on the bit-rate that you record them at. Most mp3 players say they can hold 15,000+ songs in a 20GB hard drive, but if you read the fine print, it says that you can only hold as much if you record the songs at 64kbps, which is less than cd quality. Some people can tell the difference, some cant, and some dont care. I myself only rip at cd quality or higher, which is 128kbps. It wouldn't matter to me if I could only have maybe 50 songs on the LF player, simply because there are only a select few songs that I'd like to ride to, and I already have a 20 GB mp3 player to start with anyways.

Blindside_137, I agree with the whole homework thing, but music is what drives me personally. So if I can listen to something to get me pumped while riding, I'll take it.
