OK, I am currently pushing tower speakers with 240 watts RMS. I am planning on upgrading over the winter and I was thinking of going all out on this and I came up with a plan.
12" sub
900watt RMS class D mono block amp
4" 6x9's rated at 240 watts RMS each on the tower
4x150 RMS amp for the tower.
50x4 RMS amp for the speakers in the boat.
So I guess that would put me at 1700watts RMS. I guess the fishermen won't be too happy with me
So does anybody else have a high wattage system in thier boat?

I have only got about 1500 Rms in my system but when grant chimes in he has I believe 1600 watts rms going to each W7 and I believe he has 3 in his boat. Not to mention he has I believe 8 6x9s on the tower and I do not know how many cabin speakers.
Edit Grant only has two w7s but he does have a total of 5600 watts rms.

Mike, haha, nice way of putting it.
Yeah Grant seems to run one of the larger systems... at least on here.
For anyone interested might be worth checking www.soundillusions.com, thats Grants new site... hes doing some very interesting things...

There was a guy named Doug Hanson that use to post on the other site.... When I think of grand systems, my mind always wanders back to his. I think that he spent more on his stereo than many people have on their boats. Think this was his last set up..... On a sad note, he became obsessed with German sports cars and can probably be found posting on Porscheclub.com or the like... (P.S.Also remember, back in the day, Boss tower speakers were what others were judged against.)
McIntosh 300 X 2 (pushing 2 sets of B-60 cannisters with (2) CDT mids, (2) Dynaudio mids, and 4 MB Q 25 tweets)
McIntosh 110 X 2 & 55 X 4 (boat speakers: (1) pair of Focal Kevlar 6.5 components, (2) pair MB Quart Qs 6.5s with 6 MB QM 25 tweets for all)
Orion 900 Extreme (1) 12w7
Orion 900 Extreme (1) IDMAX 12
PPI 4125 (front channels running (1) Pair of B-50 cannisters with (2) CDT high def 5.25s and (2) MB QM 25 tweets, Rear channel running (1) Eclipse Titanium 12)
Clarion 925 headunit
(2) Clarion pre-amp master volume controls with line conditioners and line driver
(2) Audiobahn line drivers with digital readouts hooked up only for voltage monitoring and phase control
Custom digital read outs for voltage, amps, and temp for each amp with an automatic fan system that doesn't work that well since I made it.
(1) IR repeater for remote
0 guage and 4 guage wiring
a butt load of high dollar RCAs twisted, balanced shielded, platnium and etc.
10 to 12 guage speaker wire with twisted and balanced moster cable going to towers and twisted going to in boat speakers. 10 guage for subs.
(2) Optima yellow tops
(3) neon lights and neon cord outlining one dummy amp wall
Other installed but not using or hooked up (2) caps, (1) Pheonix Gold line driver
Lights
5 light Boss bar with two xenons added.
Boat

John,
I always admire your gear list. Missing however was your Def Ref V's....did you change your mind?
This might be the first time I post my gear list so here goes:
Amps:
2 Zapco 1000.4 Ref.
2 Zapco 1100.1 Ref. Factory config'd for 1 ohm
1 Zapco 350.2 Ref.
Cabin:
4 Polk MMC650
2 JL 12" W6V2 D4
2 NVS 12" Alumapro Alchemy RX D4 (2 more will soon replace the JL's)
Tower:
2 NVS Addictions
1 (or 2) NVS Entity 1010's (can run 1 pair of both at one time)
Programing:
Audiobahn Head unit controling the Ipod
Ipod 30 GB photo
Control:
Massive 5 band Line Driver EQ with Push On Aux for Microphone ( you have to be watchfull of who gets their hands on this).
For moving pictures I just bring along my laptop that has a 15" screen and plug into the audio system.
Party on!

NVSAirWarrior, Corporate downsizing . j/k Actually I am downsizing the system a little bit because I am selling the boat. I am also pulling out the 12's and a couple of amps. It doesn't change the resale value of the boat haveing a mere 1600 watts and one 15".

Pair of NVS 1010's
1 10w6
2 10 w3's
6 Marine Polk audio co-axials
(2) Audiobahn a8002t
(2) JL 500/1
(1) Kenwood 4 channel amp (stock supra)
2 6V Trojan t-105 Golf cart batteries
135 amp alternator
My guess on total RMS is around 2500 RMS
Duane, where are the specs on your new subs? when are they going up on your site?

Curtis,
Your boat must rock with the W3's, a long time favorite of mine.
On the NVS RX subs, it's been a bit of a calaboration with Alumapro....ok it's a nice NVS engraved dust cap but very nice looking sub as well as efficient.
I put one in a good side by side test with a JL W6v2 D4 and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was the NVS RX more articulate, it has measurably more db.
We usually think that bigger is always better but in this case it's just more efficient.
I'll post some pics in a few days.

I've been nothing but impressed with both the w6v2 and the w3v2's I have them set up on seaprate circuits wherby I can turn one or the other off. Sometimes it's nice to ride (after a long nite of partying) w/o bass rattling your head. I'm a little concerned abotu running 5 amps in a boat. Once I get my hands on a good amp tester I want to see how much current I draw at listening volume.

Curtis,
I hear you on the bass, (and so does everyone else). Once you get over about 3,500 or so watts RMS, you tend to pass into the realm of "Special" for all the other stuff you need to do for power and transmission.
The beach area near Disco Bay is a heaven for folks with 3, 4,5, and even 6 or more K watts. These guys will always be running the engine while running the system at the upper volume levels or they (we) just run out of power rather quickly.
More batteries means longer play time, but you have to charge the batts sooner or later.....another reason to go for more efficient gear.

| D, my one 10w6 in a ported box hits noticably harder than my two 10w3's in sealed boxes. Both ported and sealed boxes are pushed with a jl 500/1.
