I was wanting to know what is the good stuff to get? My son was wanting to start up. I have a boat but wanted to get some good accessories for it and a good beginner board for my 15 year old.
I would like to set the boat up for his Christmas present with some nice accessories and board. Things like speakers, rack, mirror mounts, ect.
Links to pics would be great.
Thanks

haha... usually its the kid coming out here tryin to find what he wants for christmas.... I think that means your a good dad... on top of things.
Anyway, your best bet is to try and find a local shop. They'll set you up. If you post a general area of where your at, someone here can probably steer you the right way. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/damoncall/

What kind of boat do you have? What is the rider height/weight skill level? For some ideas, maybe a tower (pricey though but its so nice in the long run, ~1k) Weight to make the boat wake bigger is good. Lead (hard to find) or water bags (fat sacs, about 80-150 dollars and then a 60 dollar pump) are good.
For boards, I cant recommend one until I see the info on his dimensions/skill. Your going to want a non stretch rope also. This is MORE important than weight or a tower and its only about 100 maybe 150 dollars. Its so crucial in wakeboarding he'll have a very difficult time progressing with a standard ski rope. For wakeboarding you want spectra rope.
Good luck! Unfortunately youll realize this sport gets expensive! www.buywake.com is a good site for clothes or anything wakeboarding related. |

LFADAM makes a great point. Also, I have no clue what your budget is, but some things left unpurchased are sometimes smarter. For example, tower speakers. NVS makes a great tower speaker, but for a grand a pair, you might just want to pass on this notion. I sort of find it hard to help you, as I dont want to be a jerk and spend all your money and get you scared away from the sport because of all the costs. Most people, buy their products over time, to beat down on all the cost up front. A tower would be pretty cool, and a nice 2005 close out board and binding package would make me rather happy. I second buywake.com as a great place. (See the sig) They didnt have a life vest in my size, and Eric upgraded me to a better one for the same price as the one I wanted to spend. Send them a email or start a little wish list over that way and then decide.
Clothes are totally different from person to person. I like vikingsextreme clothing, Ten80, and a few other smaller "rider" companies.
An idea though, my father pimped me out just like you are doing for your son when I was 16 I want to say, and he threw in a couple of riding DVD's and the like. DVD's, bothing freeride, and educational are awesome gifts. I highly reccomend a dvd (educational) called The Book. Its 90 bucks, but well worth it. At the school I was teaching at about a year ago, we used this movie religously to help riders of all skill levels. Even the so called advanced riders can learn great things from this vid.
Bottom line, your son is going to be like any of us; happy with anything dad gets for us, no matter how much your budget is. Best of luck in your choices, and you seem like a really kick ass dad. I hope you stick around well after the Christmas season. Let us help you learn the sport, so both you and your son can get envolved with this great sport. _________________
