Hey everyone here's the deal, this is my first year on the water and I progressed alot, most of the year I rode my obrien custom 135 with 2 removable fins. The fins were real big and other than the 2 removeable ones there is no other fins. Recently I had an injury to my chest from sliders so I couldn't do big jumps. The only way I could ride was take out my fins and do surface stuff. I got so use to riding finless that when I started jumping again I never put them back in. After riding 3-4 weeks finless I can almost land a tantrum behind my little tiny wake as well as land as big of d ups as my boat drives. My season only has about 2 pulls left since I'm in MI but for next year, I'll be getting probably the LF team 134. Should I ride that finless? With the 4 outer fins in? Or get use to riding with all fins?

Someone's sig on here is "Ride without fins; so when you put them in you'll be able to cut like OJ" or something like that. It's a bit crude but you get the idea, if you ride without fins your edging techniques will get better.

thedocta, that board would be INSANELY loose with zero fins...maybe just take the middle 2 out or if you want it really loose, take them all out and replace the outer 4 with smaller ones.

I dont know...I rode the Roam for a good chunk of my season this year (which wasn't much)...when I got back on my Militant, I found that I had become really used to having an extemely loose board. Even the Militant with no center fin felt like it edged too hard for what I had become used to. Not to mention, the Roam was very light compared to he GB...
Riding with no fins at all is a blast. It does teach you how to use your edge, that's for sure.
I say ride it how you like it to feel...fins or no fins.

My board currently has no fins at all and it's real fun to ride. I;m thinking for next year maybe just the outer 4 because they are the cupped ones and ride differently

thedocta, I would swap to the smallest cupped fins and lose the center if you've been riding a custom finless long enough to get used to it. . thats just my thoughts

i ride without the center fin as well, but i've got two molded fins that are probably about .7 - .9... i kinda like the loose feeling.. in fact i feel that my riding has improved after removing the center fin..

really a personal preference.

as for the LF team... all its fins are removable.. i suggest leaving the cupped fins on, or else it'll be really really loose. the feeling is probably different.. personally i'd prefer a board with two molded side fins, and i'll ride without the center fin.

ballywho, I don't think that was meant that way. I am guessing you don't like football though.

matt1808, what? Football? Is that an OJ reference? I watch football every once in a while but I don't play.

ballywho, yea OJ was a awesome running back. I think the OJ reference in that quote was about his football playing, it could be about both his trial and football though.

as soon as i removed the fins on my LF trip, i was able to cut alot better and build line tension alot better and pop much better. i have not put the fins back on, it is fun without them.

OJ was an awesome running back. running backs make "cuts" when they run. maybe it should say "cut like Alexander" (go seahawks! Smile)
