|
|
OK, this may sounds silly, but its awesome! You can learn to surf behind your boat! These are the materials that you need...
WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT ON AN OUTBOARD BOAT!
1. A inboard boat with a big wake (taps come in handy)
2. Fat sacks that equal about 500lbs - 1000lbs.
3. a short rope (with handle)
4. wakeskate, or surfboard
ok, here's what you do, you fill your fatsacks or taps and put them all on one side of the boat, (dont let it sink, you might need to put a fat sack in the center of the boat ;near driver) then you start driving...REALLY SLOW (about 5-10mph) Then the rider needs to hold on a short rope with a handle (make sure the rope reaches the front edge of the boat) which is about 3-6 feet from the boat. Then, when your driving, turn VERY SLIGHTLY, make sure you turn the direction that you have the fatsacks on.
Then, the rider should start to surf the wake. When you feel ready to let go of the rope and actually surf the wake, lets go of the rope and have someone pull it in. Then you just ride the wake, its easy.
If you need anymore info on how to do this, private message me.

Wouldnt turning the same way as the fat sacs cause the boat to tip, so you would have to have some sort of counter-balance on the other end. And how would you know how much weight to do? _________________ "I knew those girls were pros, but don't tell Turtle, it'll break his heart." - Drama, Entourage |

no it causes the lip to curl more and enlarges the wake. you just want a lot of wake in the rear on the side you are surfing. and a lot of wake balanced throughout the boat helps but you want the most in the rear corner. |

...and you asked about the amount of weight, I use 650 in the front of my boat and 1300lbs in the back side _________________ weezer or bust |

no way, you can surf behind a boat? They should call it wakesurfing. |

I've heard most of this info before. My question is along the lines of HungJ22's. What kind of boards can you do it on? I was under the impression that you had to use something a little bigger like a surf board or skim board. Can you use a wakeboard or wakeskate? Anyone tried it? That would be some useful information. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

You can do it with a wakeboard, but you won't be able to let go of the handle and stay in the pocket. For that you'll need a bigger board, either a wakesurf board, bigger skim board, or a real surfboard.
My friends really like surfing on a wakeskate, just doing a lot of tricks and messing around but they have to use the handle the whole time. |

Anyone ever try using an old skurfer style wakeboard? I might have access to a really old obrien shredder. The thing is pretty large and is super buoyant. Seems like it would be a good use for an old board if it worked. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

I tried it with an old hyperlite skurfer. It didn't work any better than a wakeboard would. But ours isn't that buoyant and is skinny. Give yours a try |

i tried with a kneeboard it worked pretty well, but it was way too loose caues it didnt have any fins. im thinking of shaping some fins to glue onto the kneeboard to make it track better. |
