It's called a Tantrum. Don't call it a backflip or else the Terminology Nazis will give you hell. _________________ The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action.

Ok, on the front flip, (which is a cartwheel-like motion), your edging in a way that will not allow you to throw a tantrum (back flip). This is because the rope would get in the way. For this reason, it is necessary that you cut in nice and hard, then at the wake, turn parallel to the wake, (this way your body is going to flip without worrying about the rope) pop off the top of the wake, throw your head back, and the wake will kick you around the rest of the rotation. It might help to think of your lead arm, (which is the only one you're hanging on to with) as an extension of the rope...
anyways, so to answer your question, no you can not do a tantrum (back flip) like a front flip because the rope would get in the way. _________________ The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action.

One thing is for sure, I'm consistent when it comes to keeping people in check with the proper terminology. _________________ PEACE

Daniel Watkins cut a backflip to blind in "My Side". It looks like a backroll but you dont kick the board behind you (so the board never goes edge over edge) and the board goes perfectly end over end.

just a messed up version of a different trick. no backflips in wakeboarding. just tantrum and back roll _________________ The consciousness of self is the greatest hindrance to the proper execution of all physical action.

Nathan,
Why would you consider it a messed up version of another trick. I have seen Daniel Watkins cut many a backrolls, so I am sure he didnt mess it up. And why cant there be a backflip? Technically, that is exactly what he did. And the spin to blind was done right before landing so he had completed the "Backflip" rotation.
I watched it again over and over and what he did was sweet. It deserves the backflip name. Backrolls use the pull of the rope to complete. The "Backflip" was all pop off the wake. Once he left the wake there was nothing to help him complete the flip. Must take a lot of concentration on the approach. _________________ What No Wake Zone? |
