| ok, another thread topic i just thought about. I bent my propeller to hell hit a stump while towing. I was wondering if the propeller size and pitch and stuff made a difference for the wake? if so what would be ideal? I have no idea what mine is now, i looked in the manual and it does not say. I have a 2005 bayliner 185 runabout with a 3.0L merc engine in it if that helps. I get stuff from Westmarine.com for cost through my work so im not too worried about prices. I see the kind in the boarding mags, but im not sure if those would fit/work right wwith my boat. Any info would help! im just looking to improve the wake if possible while replacing the prop. 2 birds 1 stone. Thanks in advance~! |

No not really... Since you have an i/o it will be about the trim to do that.
If anything, spring for the Merc Hi-5 Prop (19 pitch). I've heard lots of good things about that on i/o's... We're going to demo one next spring _________________

So what does the Pitch exactly do? |

the pitch is how much many inches the boat travels with one spin of the propellor(before drag and such are added in)....the less pitch the more power and the higher the pitch the higher the top speed. a lower pitch will also hold speed better....15-19 is optimal for wakeboarding especially if your adding weight...

So if you add weight(which should increase your wake) it would help to get a lower pitch prop. I had a High Five on my old Four Winns and it was all the difference in the world. One drawback= If you go to low on the pitch your rpms can rev to high possibly damaging your engine if you speed across the lake alot. _________________ My therapist says it is all your fault. |
