Hey, thanks for checking this out... Im 35... athletic... own an 05 Malibu V-Ride eith titan tower, 500 lbs ballast onboard, the wedge, and a nice 75' rope with handle... the wake seems nice, but just cant seem to get over the wake... I have been riding, cutting, jumping, and am ready to get over the wake... but the best I can do is land on the inner face of the other side... ouch... so please help... Ive shortened the rope to 65', and it seems sooo close to the boat... I am trying this all at about 20mph... and can get fairly close, but need some tips. Help??? Thanks again, Mike _________________ Keep it wet... Mike

i usually take a good cut at the wake and when u get to the bottom of it flaten out ur board a lil bit and stand up tall, thats how u get ur best pop off the wake...or at least i do...at first i was havin ur same problem...now i can land on the other side of the wake with a soft cut and way out in the flats with a hard one. good luck man.
look here to see what i mean:

The length of the rope isn't imporant compared to the strechieness. You want a NO STRECH rope. No, low strech isn't any good. Spectra is a great line material.
The board may be a little small for you but if you like it thats what matters.
DO NOT listen to what rm standard said. Listen to the link he posted. Never flatten out... ever. Edge all the way up the wake. A good trick that works for me to get a good progressive edge is to not concentrate on the edge. Concentrate on loading the line progressivly. This is what the progressive edge is designed to do anyway. Don't jump at the top of the wake, just stand nice and tall. Also I dont mean stand most of the way up, I mean straigh up and down. Knee's locked. When you get it right you'll know.
Also, I ride at 53ft including handle because that's where my wake is the nicest. 65 or even less would be a good starting length.

Hmmm, well cool... but I tried 65ft and I was in the boats wash... and felt soooo close to it. Really uncomfortable... I'll try the standing up straight, and edging allthe way up the wake... my rope is a no stretch... and I have a killer carbon graphite handle... any other advice???
You really think the 135 is too short? 5-10, 175... what do you recommend??? I want to try one of the new parks boards... or something like it... but not sure .... Mike _________________ Keep it wet... Mike

| ballywho, flattening out is ok if ur jus learning, if u edge as hard as u can all the way though when ur jus learnin its gonna throw u off balance, u should move in steps to get there...but hey, to each his own... |

ProStreetMike, you can also try to speed the boat up a little - try 21 MPH, this will make the wake more narrow which will increase your chances of clearing the wake.....I ride at about 23MPH. _________________ If you do not like your job, you don't strike....You just go in there everyday and do it really half a$$ed.....Now that's the American way - Homer Simpson. |

It's fine if you like it. Wakeboarding is all about personal preference.
However I will tell you right now that you wont like the parks. Its INSANELY fast and has more pop than anything but only if you know the board.

ballywho, um unless there was a dramatic change in the parks board, its like the slowest board ever because it has so much rocker. Lots of pop though you were right about that.
ProStreetMike, A good idea is to try riding 55-60 feet back and try at that length. Maybe speed up a little bit. Can you post a vid of an attempt? It could be a problem in your technique. |

this is how i do it, sorry if its giving bad info, but it works for me... when youre going in to cut, try to straighten out your back leg, it will make you cut harder. then when you get to the top of the wake, let off a little bit and stand up. dont try to "push" off the top of the wake, and dont concentrate on trying to get high or far, just look at where you want to land and kind of go with the flow. also, it may help you to pull the handle into your hip, dont tug it, just kind of keep it closer to your body around hip level. doing this with the rope will also help you with balance in the air.
try shortening the rope as well, i dont know how long my rope is, but 65 feet sounds kind of long, and it helps when first learning to shorten the rope. you wont have as much air time but you can clear the wake easier. then when you get comfortable and want to start trying tricks let the rope out a little to where you like it best. |

I have the same board and i way 110 and am 5'4, it might be a little small for you but just ride w/ what your comfortable with. but with the wake 2 wake jump how i learned was to cut out about 10-15 feet out from the boat and then just stop, wait for a couple of seconds so theres no slack in your rope. (loading your line) when you cut in come in with a progressive edge. then when you get to the top of the wake stand tall then land and edge away. when i cut out this far though i land way out in the flats. i can only cut to where the rope is in the conor of the back of the boat which is only about 5-8 feet from the wake and sometimes i still land in the flats. but i have a really aggresive edge. it may be diffrent for everyone just depending on your edging. my rope length is 65. _________________ Don't be scared just do it! |

wakeboard chick, ***DING DING DING***, people we have a winner... TELL HER WHAT SHE'S WON!!! It's a brrrrand new car!!!
That is EXACTLY what you should do for a beginner w2w jump.
Finally, a newbie that follows directions... then realizes that someone knows better than they USED to. wakeboard chick, THANK YOU! Good job.
Wow, I never thought the day would come but a new comer here has finally given good advice... so proud...
ProStreetMike, print wakeboard chick's post out and hang it from your tower big enough so the rider can read it.
