Vancouver BC - any riders?

I'm looking for some information on the Vancouver wakeboarding scene. Where do you ride? What temp is the water? How long is your season?

Im from vancouver... well really I live in North Delta about 30 mins from downtown van but close enough...

there are tons are riding locations in my area, my favorite is the Deas slough.. no matter how windy it is, it will never be rough... unfortunetly the water is 55F and dropping but w\e... I usually go untill november depending on how fast the winter weather comes in, and i usually start in march...

In the summer Deep Cove is great place to ride and there is a wakeboard school there called Cove Watersports (Nautique)... that place is beutifull but can get rough...

why do you want to know this? you coming up one day?

Not idea where we will live but my husband's company is located in Burnaby.
I'm sure we'll live someplace close to there. How far is the nearest water from that point?

You do the BCWSA tourneys right? Do you know if they compare to the INT's here in the states?

Thats cool, the nearest riding place is Deep Cove... probably a 20 minute drive way from Burnaby... down side is Deep Cove is ocean water but I know many people keep there wakeboard boats in there, just flush the engine out every time (takes 5 minutes)

wouldn't know how they compare to INTs stops because ive never done one before but they are ran good, everyone is very slack and easy going... also Hyperlite Canada has there own tour stops in BC too.. there very good as well, alittle more hard ass lets get stuff done attitude but that can be good when stuff goes wrong

definetly not... in may its usally hot enough to go no wetsuit... in september it starts to get cold so a wetsuit is needed then....

Heyyy its not THAT cold up here.

They average temp in the summer is probably around 80-85F. Dunno what that translates to in Celcius.

I hope you know how to snow ski/board?

you are moving to the area of canada were the get to ride the longest... in ontario ice will be covering the lakes in a month or so

Yea I live in Coquitlam which is like 20 mins from Burnaby. I ride on a private lake which kicks ass. Its called Hatzic Lake, its in mission. But theres so many public lakes too. Its probably hard to find somewhere you CAN'T ride.

I live in North Vancouver and ride in Deep Cove...and I work in Burnaby which is a 20 min drive for me. We do not wear wetsuites all year long. I ride with Ocean Rider sometimes I and also am a member and compete in the wswbc tour and managed to also make one of the Hyperlite stops this year.

As Ocean said the water is usually calmer in Des Slough, in Deep Cove you gotta hit it early in the morning or later in the evening to get nice water. In the summer a thermal comes through and it gets rough by 11:00 am, add boat chop from all the pleasure boaters and basically it bites. You can run up to the end of Indian arm which is about 20 mins from Deep Cove and generally it is pretty good conditions throughout the day. I usually ride before work in the morning and rarely is the water rough at that hour....actually some of my favourite moments are riding on butta as the sun rises over the mountains....it's awesome.

Also I am a member of the Vancouver Water Ski Club which is 5 mins from Deep Cove ( boat access only) and we have a jump as well as a slider. There is also a ski course if your into that sort of thing.

Check out www.covewatersports.com which is owned by my friend Joel Perkins. Most of the pics are from Deep Cove so you can get an idea of what the terrain looks like. joel runs an Air Nautique and a Super Air ( the blue moomba in a couple of the pics is mine).

One more thing...if you plan on riding through the winter you will want to use a dry suite from Nov to Feb.

Yeah theres a scene but not a big scene. Its growing though. Im over on the island and the scenes growing over here to.

Well if you do move here you should really start snowboarding (if you don't already) because that is really accessable from Vancouver. Then you can wakeboard in the summers Smile

I live in Van in the winter and go back to the Island for April - August to ride. Its a good place to live, like a giant playground.

You'll love Vancouver. You'll also want to take up mountain biking. Vancouver has the best mtn biking in the world.

There is good wakeboarding just over the US border in the Bellingham area.

Vancouver is the place for you then. For snowboarding, there are good mountains right in town. The snowboarding events for the 2010 Olympics will be in Vancouver (and the alpine events in Whistler). Whistler is 1.5 hrs north and Mt. Baker is also nearby.

The mountain biking is awesome in Vancouver, an incredible mountain bike park in Whistler, and great riding throughout the area.

And wakeboarding, too.

You can also check out www.ridersrealm.com if you want to ride at the deas slough. You will probably also want to check out the protour in Kelowna, British Columbia next year, about 4 hrs from Vancouver. It is one of the biggest wakeboarding events around.
