radar/laser detecors

What brand makes these that really work GOOD and catches police before they catch you? Thanks.

Valentine One, but they are pretty damn expensive. Also the Passport (8500 I think) is extremely good as well.

I hate them personally. My friends squeals like a b|tch every time he starts his car. As far as I would think, don't they detect the radar when its uhhh pointing in your general vicinity? Depending how fast you're going you wouldnt even have time to slow down. Now if they could pick up a speed trap a mile away I'd be all over one.

Most cops run the gun by hand now to avoid detection, they see you and then click at you... too late in that situation no matter how expensive your detector is....

I've had a cobra for about 4 years now and it works great if you know how to use it, and know about your municipality. Where i live the city police use regular radar, and only a few of the State boy's use laser. Knowing this i get plenty of warning in the city and a ok warning on the highway, If they use laser though you are screwed and i know and recognize that.

I wouldn't call myself a speeder but since i got the detector i havn't received a ticket.

The laser detector is kind a scam, because with laser the cop has to have line of sight to your car. So you will see him too(if your paying attention). If your state has front plates thats usually what they aim for.

i have a valentine one, but it's secondary to the cb radio as far as effectiveness goes while on the highway. it's more for when there is nobody else around (in which case it's unlikely there's a speedtrap somewhere).

it is effective (generally) far enough in advance that you can slow down enough to not get ticketed, or at least get a lower fine.

but don't expect it to tell you all the time, or be a shield to getting tickets. if you're speeding, you'll eventually get caught. a detector can only lower the risk.

in addition, you have to change your driving habits a bit. you can't just outright speed, because it takes a while to get used to what the detector is telling you in a given situation.

just dont get one in australia because they are illegal, the cops have detectors that detect your detector then you get a ticket for having that! but i think you can get radar detector detector jammers now!!?? Confused

speeding fines in australia are in general way more harsh than here in the states. theres unmarked cars everywhere on the side of the road with speed cameras in them to get you, and unmarked cop cars driving everywhere to get you,
the cops back home actually have a quota they have to meet each month of speeding tickets and speeding ticket revenue!! how much does that suck, its all about the $$$ 4 or 5 mph over the speed limit BAM! youre booked! im more paranoid at looking at the speedo than concentrating on where im going most of the time!

Well then you just stop speeding. I think, or you can just drive faster than the cops... How much is a radar jammer? I think that would be VERY illegal and easy for the cops to see because they would get random speeds and blank lines.

i have a really old detector. its made by uniden. at first when i got it i thought it might be out of date and the cops radars wouldnt be picked up. but it does work and has saved my ass on more than one occasion. i was really suprised when it went off and i didnt see any cops, so whatever you know, its just beepin for the hell of it. stopped turned the corner and BAM a pig was sittin right there. it doesnt always work but i like it, its a sence of security.

ballywho, jammers are legal in some states.

BTW, I don't think a cop has the right to search your car b/c his radar gun "malfunctioned"

Forgeting about the money right now, is there any device that is a radar/laser detector and radar/laser jammer? Thanks for the info so far guys.
