Now why the HELL will the mother get off with 6 months in jail, when the guy's involved will likely be sent up the river??? WTF?

None of it's right - but it was the MOTHER'S responisbility to keep the girls SAFE - so IMO, she should get the brunt of the punishment! Confused

As a matter of fact, I hope the other mom's in lockup beat the crap out of her every day! Evil or Very Mad

Really. Do you think her daughters were destined for greatness anyway? Looked like they were already on the path to the trailer park. If they were bold enough to take 18-19 year olds back to their hotel room from the mall, I doubt that this was new to them. I bet they'd be knocked up before HS ended anyway.

Everyone needs to accept that there are dumb people in the world. And for some reason we find them facinating. Razz

BigRed, BS on that! Parents are supposed to protect their children - and - children learn what their parents show them! It's not even a question of whether these girls would turn out to be promiscuous later in life.. The MOTHER had NO RIGHT to put them in that situation!

Don't get me wrong. I completely agree that what the mother did was absurd and went against all paternal instincts. It was very destructive to these young women.

But so is locking your kids in the house while you drink all afternoon at the local bar.

So is working all day, coming home, feeding your kid, and going to bed without saying a word to them.

So is having a terrible self image of yourself, putting everyone down around you overeating to compensate, and feeding your kid a bunch of garbage.

Just like with all the above cases, some uneducated parent with a skewed sense of morals made bad decisions which will affect her daughter's life.

I alluded that this incident probably wasn't the first life-changing event.

I'm not sure which part of what I said you have a problem with.

as far as the RAPE goes. I wouldn't read into it that much. I see it as more of a facilitation by the mother rather than a forced encounter. Again, I'm not condoning it, but given the mental capacity of the mother, and this being a planned event, I don't think the girls were seeing this as a bad thing.

As far as the society's facination with cases like these, you're proving my point. Why get so emotionally attached to a story where A) you know a 3-minute blurb of what's going on and B) is outside the scope of a caring, loving family I know you hope to have someday (ie not relating to you).

I guess I'll forward you some sob-story emails and mail you some kleenex Rolling Eyes

Just out of curiosity, would the feelings be the same if it was a couple of 14 year old boys and older women? I have seen some cases of that, but they generally get pushed to last page news.

So, I was reading your post and I thought "maybe this dude isn't quite as much of a tool as I thought". Then I read the last 3 lines.

Your post makes it sound like you think that it's no big deal if/that this happened, they probably would have gotten knocked up anyway. I think that's a f-ed up way of looking at life, especially with regards to children. If what allegedly happened to these little girls is of no consequence to you, why do you bother posting on this thread?

I think that if my daughter was put in that position by someone I trusted, that person and the person(s) taking advantage of her would suffer some serious consequences that are made of lead. I'm not attached or facinated with the story. I'm attached to and love my daughter more than anything, so when I hear about stories like this it disgusts me. What gets me was your lack of caring that something like this may have happened and your passing it off as 'it was only a matter of time' attitude. It's sad really.

I didn't mean to rile you up dude. Actually, yeah, I did. but it was pretty dickish. Sorry, I didn't mean to infer that you shouldn't love your kids.

I don't have kids (yet). But I bet I'd have a similar response to yours when I'm at that point at my life. Right now, I'm glad I can detach myself. There's plenty of f*cked up things in this world that will drive you crazy if you take them all to heart. I guess detachment is my way of coping.

Regardless, I still think the story is overhyped to produce the feverent responses that have been posted here so far. Other people have made posts alluding to the same conclusion. I think if you take the emotion out of it for a second and look at the situation, you might be able to see it as a viable senario as well.
