liquidfool, push it down & disinfect the crap out of it... I wouldn't pull it off, because that won't make it start hurting, and also - DAMN that would hurt! I'd just be real careful not to rake anything else over it...

Push it down and put a band-aid over it to keep it down. Let it fall off naturally. Trust me, I've learned from experience.

Dude, go see a doctor. Me and my girl were wrestling one time and her thumb nail did the same thing. We went to the doctor and the doctor drilled holes in each side of the nail and sewed it back on. This didn't work! It got all infected and healed only half way. So what happens next? Yeah, the doctor says it has to come off, nothing like experiencing something twice.
It finally grew back a couple months later, at the longest. It was awhile ago!
Toanails may be different but who knows...
Goodluck and post pics yO!

Leave it alone and put a band aid over it. Clip it as it starts to grow out or starts to snag on things.
Drilling the nail in attempts to sew it down will do nothing. Sounds like the bonehead ER doc was experimenting on your Gf swilly. If it worked he would have something new to study . Since it didn't, he wasn't going to lose any sleep over it knowing that it would eventually heal on its own.

Ah the gift that will keep on giving forever! Take a deep breath and yank that baby off and enjoy the ingrown toenails for the rest of your life.

| Ugh... I hate nails, they're mental. One of mine got smashed playing hockey but never fell off. Fifteen years later it's improved slightly, but still looks all jacked up.

muckmeister, how do you get your toenail hit? Are your skates big enough?
I had a dude knock me down in front of the net and his stick was over my glove when we both fell... then a guy tripped over my leg, fell on the other side of the dudes stick - so basically all their weight was on either side of the stick and it just crushed my finger.
Never gone on a mens league trip, they cost so much in our league. I used to play in a lot of tournaments in canada/usa... but mostly NY and MI in the states.

ontrider,
I went down a half size and my toes were right on the plastic, bad mistake, those skates never fit and always hurt. So, I am playing d guys comes in I put my legs together and his blast hit right in the middle of both feet and nailed my big toes. In addition with bad fitting skates your feet get really cold outside. But you know that. I was playing outside in Dec and my toes were frozen. After that I bought those 8090's and went back to the size I had always been wearing.
My team goes to the FT. Lauderdale trip in April. We partied pretty hard with our Canadian friends. They were from Toronto. We played them every year for the championship. So, we are playing them again in the final game. We all get down to the parking lot together at the hotel. Look at the sky, beach and ocean. We forfitted and all went the beach and partied hard all day and night. They held court on the beach for all the violations that took place on the trip. Puking a car, missing a game etc, it was some fine entertainment. A bunch of my other buddies go to vegas every year. That is just a sick time from what they tell me.

Did those tight fitting boots/messed up toenails end up with ingrown toenails? From playing football and my ski boots I've had problems with both my big toes constantly having ingrown toenails ever since.
I've had them surgically removed, cut grooves in the tops, cut v's in the fronts, tried "outgrow" medication and they always come back. Usually once every month and a couple times a month during ski season I half to perform self surgery to dig them out. Hurts like a mofo, especially if they get infected from a non sterile knife.
Any recomendations?

lcap, well not my toe... but on my finger one side would always bleed since it dug in and I would have to cut the side then sort of rip it out - which hurt. I just kept doing that and eventually after a few years it kind of worked itself out, straightened a bit so I don't have to rip skin out with it
It's still a bit 'dented' and f'd up looking... I asked the doc if there was something I could do to fix it and he said not really, just let it grow. I'm sure there's probably something I could do, but I dont' really care that much.

Let it fall off naturally. I lost both my big toenails last summer from hiking. It took them about a year to grow back and look normal again.

Its not that the sewing part didn't work, its the fact that leaving the nail on the nailbed caused the thing to get infected.

I knocked both of my big toenails off in one day It took about five months to completely grow back and it was grizzly looking. I have never had a problem with ingrown toenails though.
