I need some tips on how to break the "skier's grip" habit. I try to think about it butsooner or later I forget and find myself using it again.
Please dont post if you're gonna be a smart a$$ and say "think harder" ect.

It might help a bit to understand why you are doing it...
From what I understand, a baseball grip (slalom skiers grip) is a stronger grip and allows you to pull with your biceps a bit more.
An overhanded grip (what you want for wakeboarding) will keep your shoulders more square and balanced. It also makes skills like passing the handle and "advancing on the boat" easier.
Learning a new skill & breaking old habits does take some amount of "thinking". If you want to get better, you need to set goals for each ride and evaluate your progress after each run.
Let your crew know, and have them snap the rope or wave or yell at you whenever they notice you doing it wrong!

| well, have the guys in the boat count how may times you grip wrong and for each time you do, you have to do something stupid, like take a shot to the nuts or wakeboard naked... i dunno something that will make you think about how you are gripping so you wont grip wrong. |

Haha, I third that!
Just make sure when your coming into a trick that you are over handed. When coming out of it if you arent over handed, do it again and be sure to keep your grip correct. Just keep whatever your having trouble with (in this case your grip) at top priority in thinking while riding. For me its pulling the handle hard on my 3s, does that make sense? |

| Pay attention! I don't even know how I adopted the grip and someone made me notice it one day. It is like when your learning wake jumps or a new trick you run everything through your head what you need to do. Just next time you cut out include to ask yourself if you have the right grip. The time after I was informed I was doing this I was going wake to wake with ease because I was more balanced with the wakeboarder grip. |

Get a picture with you doing the baseball grip and look at it all day, you will see how gay it looks and mentally force yourself not to do it any more out of personal abuse. _________________ PEACE

I found that the peopel I know that do that I tell them to cram there hands into the corners of the handle in a wakeboarder grip and keep them there the cornors make it such that you have to think somewhat to change your grip. . .but most of these people are basically learning to cut and jump they arent doing any handlepass moves _________________ TEAM PIRATE, AAAARRRGGGHHH YOU READY?

after crossing the wake, go one-handed.
it's kind of awkward to do with the undergrip so it'll force you to use an overhand grip if you do this each time. |

I find Bottle Rockets to be very appropriate in this situation. You just get someone setup on the back of the boat with a punk and a handful of rockets. Granted accuracy isn't guaranteed but you damn well better pay attention when the rockets start flyin'.
Funny, it seems that Bottle Rockets are appropriate for almost all situations... including weddings...those are looks of approval right? |

I'm thinking strap then to the rope so it'll either hit them or be damn close.

I found as soon as I switched from a 12" to 15" handle, my baseball grip habit was gone. I cat tell you why though... _________________ Long Island, NY & Canada Lake, NY (addirondacks)
