I've only landed one of these, but it was 2 years ago.
I finally started trying them again last weekend. Previously, I had been confusing myself on my approach by trying to get on the gas too much and getting disoriented just prior to takeoff. It seems weird, but it had to do with what I was looking at just before I threw the trick.
Anyway, this weekend I got over that mental block and just began to approach it like a normal wake jump. I know I'm still leaving a little bit early which is part of my problem, but I was hoping for more tips. I think I also need to pull the handle more to my new lead hip. Basically, I either dig the nose or get all the way around but I'm leaning too much away from the boat to hold on. Any other tips other than waiting more and pulling the handle more to my new lead hip?
BTW, mine look like I'm coming out of a switch backroll. I guess this is alright, but it seems to pose obviously problems when I start trying regular TS backrolls. Is it ok to keep throwing them up and away like I have been (see pic...I ride goofy footed), or do I need to throw them straight back and then do the 180 on the way down? I know the handle is not in like it should be, but this was the very first one I did after 2 years...I have been keeping the handle more at my hips but it gives you an idea of my rotation. And yes, I should probably learn the straight backroll first by the R2R is more natural for me!
Novel off...

First off any way you do it your still casing the wake in that pic so make sure you get enough air. Tuck a little more to finish your rotation like suck up your knees in air. Keep the handle closer to that front hip(should also help rotation) Land edging away from the wake on your heels and look at the horizon.

It's perfectly fine to learn it to revert first. I learned it like that too. Casing the wake is a big problem on that trick as well. It's really important to take a very gentle cut at first, and drive up the wake to create line tension. If you are cutting too fast and hard when you hit the wake, it won't give you the right lift, and you will case. Without seeing it, it looks like you are doing it right - combining the 180 and the flip is good. If you are hitting your butt all the time, you might be pulling the handle in to your body too much. Focus on moving it across your body rather than pulling it in to spin. Good luck!

jkeubanks,
to me the trick really does feel like a switch hs back roll. Really think about building a progressive edge into the wake, and keep the handle in close.
I have one as the 5th or 6th trick in the video in my galery if you want to analize it a bit... (You can really see the progressive edge, but I threw it a little bit early too!).
Keep thinking "wait until the top of the wake" as you approach the wake. It really makes a huge difference.

edge completely thru the wake, and dont throw it until you have felt the immense thud on your board (energy from edging thru the wake, and getting plenty of pop), then you wont have to put much into throwing the rotation, just like everyone says, you look like you dont have a problem with this. Just think edge the crap out of wake and then roll. dont roll while still ridin up the wake.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'm going to give it another go this weekend.
And for the face in the picture...I dislocated my shoulder upon take-off and it was out of place the entire R2R attempt in the picture.

| I'd agree with K-wood... saying tuck a bit to rotate it faster, or even try grabbing it melan/method. Also keep the handle in and low. like brad said... having it out/high really stalls this rotation i find.
