My parents bought a house on a lake last month and I am ready to visit and start wakeboarding! I've never done it before. But I expect to learn pretty quickly. I skate boarded when I was younger and now I snowboard and surf (hitting snow and water hurts less than hitting the pavement). I'd like to get a board that will still be good as I get better. I don't expect to be a beginner for long.
I'm 6'1" tall, and 185 lbs. My younger brother will be using it also. He is roughly the same size and weight.
Right Now I'm looking at the Hyperlite Motive 140. Is this a good choice and size?
Also, while looking for equipment I see that there is different handle setups. I think they are Standard, T, and V. Whats the difference?
Lastly (And this is probably a dumb question). I skate regular and my brother skates goofy foot. Do the boots need to be rotated every time we switch? or can the board just be flipped around? Is there actually any difference between the front and back of the board?
Sorry for the long post, but I don't live near any wake boarding shops so there is no chance for me to go look at a board or test one out. I'm just ordering blindly off the internet.
Thanks. |

Well, I am 6'4", 230 lbs, and I ride the Motive 144. I like the board, and was able to get a combo deal of the net, with bindings.
Check out this link: http://www.boardstop.com/boardfinder.php?ref=14
I think that size is about right for you.
Concerning, the binding setup, typically, you would have it the rear binding further back, placing more weight, and fin in the water for control, as a beginner.
I would think that if you could start out with an advanced foot stance (do a search here on stance), that way it would be symmetrical, and be good for both you and your brother.
You would not change the binding direction. Boards are for the most part symmetrical, and if you set up the bindings that way, it would be cool for both of you.
The handles, I would have to say that the T is a wrapped handle (the little cheater bar), and maybe the V handle, is the one with the cheater bar, that has the diamond like rope aroudn it? I am not sure about that, someone else can help... _________________ Be an organ donor! My father is alive today because of kind souls that donate life... |

I'm 6'3" 185 and i ride the motive 140. its the perfect size. If you have the claw bindings clamps its not that hard to switch them around but it shouldnt make that much of a difference if you just left them. _________________ Chuck Norris' chief export is pain.
