i'm contemplating getting a 6 channel jl audio marine amp and it has different power ratings for different powering setups. for example, if you run the amp at 12 volts you get 45 watts rms x6 at 4 ohms. but if you run it at 14.5 v you get 70 watts rms x 6 at 4 ohms. how do you run the amp at 14.5v though if if the battery is only giving 12v?
Typically this is in reference to when the motor is running. Charging at 14.4 volts. Most batteries output is 12.5-13 volts. Audio manufactures use that in "their" rating of the equipment. It is kinda B.S. rating their own equipment. But most quality manufacturers underrate anyways. _________________ " I have a fever....... and the only prescription is more cow bell. "
Dont worry about the difference between 45 and 70 watts - That is equivelent to 2dB and will only just be noticable.
When out riding, your amp will be putting out the higher power value which will help slightly over engine noise. _________________ Wakeboarding is so Kool in Ireland!
